    Thumbs up Becoming a Celebrity

Becoming is the essential quality of homo sapiens.

    But what shall we become?

    We become who we worship.

When we worship we open our deepest self to the deity, and so in our quotidian lives become a reflection of our God.

But who do we worship today? We worship celebrities. Their images are everywhere from TV to magazines to the internet.

And of course celebrities today take the place of angels and saints and deities.

We are told we are cast in the image and likeness of God, and today we are cast in the image and likeness of our celebrities.

We create our celebrities and our celebrities create us.

Who's to say? Do we become a reflection of "our God", or is "our God" a reflection of us?

^I think it takes an idealist to want to a better god than ourselves. Maybe idealists are creating and reflecting too, and it's only an embodiment of their own aspirations... But for the most part, they seem to be only ones not entirely reflecting.

Umm, I don't necessarily mean this is the domain of NFs either. Everyone should be at least capable of imagining something more than the usual. I would hope at least. It puzzles me sometimes though why many people have gods that are just as bad as the worst humans. Take for instance the god who let those muslims gun down an optometrist recently. Optometrist. That's crazy, because I'm a better god than that - I don't have any beef with optometrists. They can't raise a bar a little? I'm just some random suburban dude in America, and I'm a better god than Allah. That's sad and pathetic. And it's because I have ideals and wish for a better world, while Mohammed was an idiot.. who also might have been insane because of lack of air conditioning. Maybe. Besides ideals, good weather and ventiliation is key to creating good gods, I think. I mean, you see the same sort of insanity with those fire and brimstone preachers too... sweating their asses off and yelling in old ass churches. No wonder their gods suck. They need air conditioning. But look at Jesus, probably got a good breeze, hanging out next to Galilee. Or those Buddhists and Taoists, always chilling next to some gentle stream and shit. Good weather = ideals.

OK.. Not sure where I'm going with this.

    Smile Worship, Language and Genes

When I speak with you, I reflect you. And just as a mirror is reflection, so I am a reflection of you.

And those who worship are those who mirror God. And in mirroring God, they reflect the same God.

Fortunately natural selection has seen to it that we all have mirror neurons, so we are primed and ready to mirror God.

So worship, like language, comes in our genes.

Oh... I guess that's why we make funny faces while we worship.

If you're talking about the conventional God, I'd say you're pretty close. Basically, a super-dominant male that can't be detected directly, just indirectly. If you're talking about the God of mystical traditions, then it's the whole universe, in which case everything listed is wrong.

    Funny.
