I was just thinking. If there was still consciousness after death but the consciousness didn't "go" anywhere (heaven, hell, valhalla, whatever you like), well, can you imagine how horrific that would be?

It wouldn't be horrific because horror is an animal's perception. Even when you deny Heaven, Hell, and Valhalla, you are still tempted to apply human attributes to the experience!! If there's any sort of experience after death, it doesn't have anything to do with you. You won't remember yourself because your brain will become soil, and you will have ceased to be anything that you consider "you."
