It’s dark. Get me out of here!
Where’d the light go?

Day after day, we live in darkness.

Where’d the sun go?

Let’s take a step away from all of this hustle and bustle.
Cars, money, jobs, greed, power, popularity, you can’t come.

There. I think we’re alone now.
Are you sure you’ve left them behind?
It’s important that you do; they’ll slow us down
On our trip.

Hold my hand, let us go.

Let there be light.
Light is upon us. The wall is gone!

I can see! Oh, the beauty of it all!
But how are we to enjoy this without
Greed, lust, and our other superficial friends?

I hate to break it to you,
But with them, there is not light.

You mean that all of these things- our money, our power, the cars we drive-
Keep us from the light?

They are an illusion, my friend. They keep us from the light because they consume us and don’t tell us.
They keep us from who we really are.
They keep us from being.

And in the end, they fail us.
For these things are but passing clouds in the sky.
You can’t dwell upon them,

Wait, but then, who are we really?

We are the light.
Without the warmth of the light, we don’t truly know the beauties of life.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I ask you, my friend, to take a step out from behind the wall.
Take a walk in the sunlight and learn to be. Be as the flowers, the birds, and the trees.
Realize that life is simply a passing of time; beautiful,
And that death is simply a changing weather pattern; beautiful.
Realize that our daily dramas are meaningless; laughable,
And that our attachments are pointless; laughable.

After all, our being is but an ever-changing tide.
Never hold on, or you’re lost.

Brilliant and very well written.
I'm not an avid reader of poetry, and that was a joy to read.
Nice. :nice:

I've never written a (decent) poem.

I've never tried.

At first, I was worried that it wouldn't be considered a poem, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that Poetry is simple a certain way of expressing ideas and emotions just like music, paintings, and writings.

Thank you guys so very much. If I do write anymore I'll share.

Thank you for sharing! It is beautiful. And don't worry about what is or is not considered a poem. Poetry is what you make of it. :)

I love your thoughts/poem. I loved the entire piece but these are my favorite lines -
"Let there be light.
Light is upon us. The wall is gone!"

No need to worry.
It's called free form or free verse poetry.
It's what I started writing, when I was about your age.

You don't have to write with the usual conventions. (Structure, rhyme etc.)
Just let it flow freely from your mind.
When some people try too hard, it ends up sounding like shit.

Yours, however, was inspiring. :hi:

Thanks, man!

It was exactly free verse.

it's for my AP Comp class.

He told to us to write, not think; to spill our brains out on paper. And that I did. :D
