What philosophical or spiritual idea or concept resonates most with you? Why?

My contribution:

"Know thyself." (Gnothi Seauton)

I meditate on this simple idea a lot because like most simple ideas it is not so simple. It is essentially ambiguous.

Possible meanings:

* Know and be mindful the nature of 'selfhood' or personhood. Ego. Guard against the unchecked influence of the subject in how it perceives reality.
* Understand your own self through introspection.
* Try to understand things on your own. An imperative command to seek knowledge directly rather than as received from other sources.

In practical terms, it is useful to consider the influence of the self, so this is the meaning I consider most often.

and to know urself, you got to understand yourself as part of the universe.
Therefore know thyself is, in the end, the very theme of all physical and human sciences.

Being and non-being define the limits of the self.

And non-being both limits being and makes being possible.

Each one of us come from non-being. And each one of us is headed for non-being.

But this is so sublime we hide it even from ourselves.

Metaphysics (My Avatar, in short), is the study of the physics of Religion, and deals heavily with concepts of all religions, mostly Hinduism and Buddhism and relates them to quantum physics and cosmology, and the idea of a divine being and the creation of the universe and mankind, on a deeper level than most sciences usually touch on.

Yep budhistic concepts remind me of nowaday's physics alot. I mean it did when I first studied it, but I kind of forgot all the details by now.
I'd have to check it out again.

althrough I'm not sure I agree when you say 'on a deeper level'. Metaphysics relate to the human while physics go for a neutral approach, and therefore has more chance of uncovering what could be called 'the truth'

I believe I just textually shouted this at an ENTP a few minutes ago...

Psychic link for the scare!

Hope it seems enthusiastic rather than lazy, but /AGREE.

Know thyself.

But there is no escape from yourself - you are trapped in a hall of mirrors - all pointing at you.

This way lies narcissism and finally paranoia.

And in between time - in the meantime - lies depression.

I don't know what is the most sublime concept but one I was just thinking about earlier tonight is that there is no freedom in rebellion. There is no disconnection in resistance. True freedom comes with flowing and connection. That is a lovely paradox, I think.

That's a scary idea.

"We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are."

I don't know who said it, though.

What do you mean?

He probably means what the phrase means, that a thing is defined by its physical properties and nature.
That the metaphysical IS the physical.

"Live and let live."

I dunno about "most sublime", but that's what popped into my mind.
