Yeah, it's stupid...even stupider if they start to attract too much attention. This is something best ignored by the uninterested.

You are too cool for words, just for knowing that... I didn't expect anyone to know who it was

It'll promote it simply by influencing children of the faith, most likely making a narrower worldview. Does it degrade it? Yes, to a degree. But then I take faith very seriously... in short, truth matters. Building up a support base from toys... well...

What can I say? Some people do worship their transformers... Personally, I'd rather worship .

I guess the point is - why not try to get more adults by getting religion into porn? Or why not turn it into a giant party?

Though both have already happened. And the same reason I can't take Christian faith seriously. This is just an extension of it. In that sense, you bring people into the fold under the wrong pretense. That to me, above all else, is wrong.
training children? are they animals? you should guide them not train!

I don't mean it negatively... but we do train children - punishment, incentives and feedback are very similar between children and animals. The main difference is in how we encourage development... humans are considerably more complex than your average animal! Introducing belief at a young age (the point where children view their parents as all knowing and infallible), to me, is akin to training.

I'm surprised no one has seized the sheer girth of humour that could be had from the OP picture.

Yeah, it does look like they got "Samson" confused with "Sodom."
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

And do you think this sort of thing actually helps promote the faith, or merely degrades it?

It neither promotes the faith nor degrades it. The Spanish Inquisition degrades the faith. Removing the separation of church and state degrades the faith. This is not even on the radar.

The main problem with this toy is that it's not a fun toy. Samson should rip off his shirt then run around tearing down buildings. Or maybe they could sell David's slingshot with a laser scope. Dang that sounds cool I got to go buy me some of those toys. (Oh wait they are just in my head and not for sale. )

I think something that irritates me is that Christianity (especially) always seems to feel a need to duplicate what the world does, so that it can offer its constituents everything the world does but just with a "Christianized" twist. (Christian Contemporary Music, CCM, anyone?)
Actually a lot of U2 songs can be considered CCM, but people don't think of it that way because they have their own sound. When people think of CCM their mind goes to some band that is just a rip off of some secular band. (Come to think of it most secular bands are just a rip off of some other secular band.)

I personally consider it somewhat hilarious. A "Samson" action figure? It just looks so silly! And you have to love the irony of something that's supposed to be promoting religious values being intended for use as a fighting toy. How are they going to advertise it?

"Introducing the NEW Samson action figure. Kick major Philistine butt with mighty temple-crushing, bone-slinging action, and if you order now, we'll include our new God action figure, whom Samson can use his worship command to gain even MORE power from. So what are you waiting for? Enlist the help of God, and crush those Philistines! Operators are standing by."
