If you go out to CPP ICON Success , a forum run by CPP, you can join a discussion/post your questions about type and Enneagram to Pat Wymann, author of Three Keys to Self-Understanding , a book that integrates the two theories. Pat uses them in tandem in counseling, helping people realize when they're letting their Enneagram defense system overpower their type strengths.
I for example prefer INFJ and E7, for which the defense mechanism is optimism. There's nothing wrong with optimism until it gets in the way of rational thinking, as in, "I'll just ignore that comment from my boss because it'll all work out" when in fact the comment probably indicated I'm about to be backstabbed to the max, for example...
