Default The Everyday Habits that Reveal our Personalities

Recently the BCC published an article, "Everyday habits that Reveal Our Personalities", about correlation between Big Five traits and various habits and lifestyle traits.

The correlations vary from obvious (Conscientious people are more likely to wear a watch!) to unexpected (Open-minded people are more likely to like dry white wine), to thought provoking (Why do Agreeable folks get fewer speeding tickets...?).

Keep in mind, though, that a given correlation may not hold for any given individual.

    Some correlations from the article:

The Extraverts (closely correlate with MBTI Extraverts)
    • Spend more time in hot tubs.
    • Spend more drinking in bars.
    • Discuss ways to make money, decorate, and get a tan.
    • Have more tattoos.
    • Use less concrete language than introverts.

The Open-minded (correlate with MBTI iNtuitives)
    • Read more poetry.
    • More likely to go to opera.
    • More likely to smoke marijuana.
    • More likely to swear.
    • More likely to eat spicy foods.
    • More likely to lounge around naked.
    • Less likely to follow a sports team.
    • More likely to like fruits, vegetables and art-house movies.
    • Tend to prefer dry, rather than sweet, white wine.

The Agreeable (correlate with MBTI Feelers)
    • More likely to be popular.
    • More likely to have lots of friends.
    • Spend more time ironing, playing with children, and doing dishes
    • More likely to sing in shower or car.
    • Get fewer speeding tickets.
    • Eat more sweet foods.

The Conscientious (correlate with MBTI Judgers)
    • Read fewer books.
    • Swear less.
    • Chew on pencils less.
    • Wear watches more.
    • Are more likely to polish their shoes.

    The Neurotic (no MBTI correlate)
    • Take more anti-depressants and tranquilizers
    • Lose their temper more often.
    • Make fun of others more often.

I want to spend some time with one of those extroverts in their hot tub.

The Extraverts (closely correlate with MBTI Extraverts) - I'm an introvert
    • Spend more time in hot tubs. -sign me up
    • Spend more drinking in bars. -will they pay for me too?
    • Discuss ways to make money, decorate, and get a tan. -valid concerns
    • Have more tattoos. - I'll pass
    • Use less concrete language than introverts. - Is this because most introverts are Si-dom?

The Open-minded (correlate with MBTI iNtuitives) - I test highest on this
    • Read more poetry. - Yeah
    • More likely to go to opera. - I'll go if an extrovert with a hot tub invites me
    • More likely to smoke marijuana. - I'll pass...it on. No, no, I don't do drugs.
    • More likely to swear. - I'm too prim
    • More likely to eat spicy foods. - yes
    • More likely to lounge around naked. - with an extrovert after the hot tub
    • Less likely to follow a sports team. - it bores me, true... but the opera!
    • More likely to like fruits, vegetables and art-house movies. - all at once too
    • Tend to prefer dry, rather than sweet, white wine. - dry red, really

The Agreeable (correlate with MBTI Feelers) - I test as, uh, non-agreeable aka a Thinker
    • More likely to be popular. -
    • More likely to have lots of friends. - I have quite a few good friends
    • Spend more time ironing, playing with children, and doing dishes - suckers!
    • More likely to sing in shower or car. - yes, because I'm too kind to inflict that on anyone
    • Get fewer speeding tickets. - I speed and argue with cops because I'm a moron
    • Eat more sweet foods. - I don't eat my feelings. I face them HEAD ON

The Conscientious (correlate with MBTI Judgers) - I test as, uh, unconscientious aka a Perceiver
    • Read fewer books. - I do love to read
    • Swear less. - True, I'm stuffy
    • Chew on pencils less. - nom nom nom
    • Wear watches more. - Causes tan lines. Any extrovert with a hot tub want to discuss that?
    • Are more likely to polish their shoes. - I... can't justify spending time on that

The Neurotic (no MBTI correlate) - Yeah I'm neurotic...
    • Take more anti-depressants and tranquilizers - No
    • Lose their temper more often. -
    • Make fun of others more often. - Nah. Probably about the same as anyone.
Often a star was waiting for you to notice it. A wave rolled toward you out of the distant past, or as you walked under an open window, a violin yielded itself to your hearing. All this was mission. But could you accomplish it? (Rilke)

According to that list, one would deduce that I'm strongly intuitive. lol Also those things are Big Five inventories. Are there any proven correlation between big five and mbti?
