Recently the BCC published an article, "Everyday habits that Reveal Our Personalities", about correlation between Big Five traits and various habits and lifestyle traits.

The correlations vary from obvious (Conscientious people are more likely to wear a watch!) to unexpected (Open-minded people are more likely to like dry white wine), to thought provoking (Why do Agreeable folks get fewer speeding tickets...?).

Keep in mind, though, that a given correlation may not hold for any given individual.

Some correlations from the article:

The Extraverts (closely correlate with MBTI Extraverts)
  • Spend more time in hot tubs.
  • Spend more drinking in bars.
  • Discuss ways to make money, decorate, and get a tan.
  • Have more tattoos.
  • Use less concrete language than introverts.
The Open-minded (correlate with MBTI iNtuitives)
  • Read more poetry.
  • More likely to go to opera.
  • More likely to smoke marijuana.
  • More likely to swear.
  • More likely to eat spicy foods.
  • More likely to lounge around naked.
  • Less likely to follow a sports team.
  • More likely to like fruits, vegetables and art-house movies.
  • Tend to prefer dry, rather than sweet, white wine.
The Agreeable (correlate with MBTI Feelers)
  • More likely to be popular.
  • More likely to have lots of friends.
  • Spend more time ironing, playing with children, and doing dishes
  • More likely to sing in shower or car.
  • Get fewer speeding tickets.
  • Eat more sweet foods.
The Conscientious (correlate with MBTI Judgers)
  • Read fewer books.
  • Swear less.
  • Chew on pencils less.
  • Wear watches more.
  • Are more likely to polish their shoes.
The Neurotic (no MBTI correlate)
  • Take more anti-depressants and tranquilizers
  • Lose their temper more often.
  • Make fun of others more often.

According to that list, one would deduce that I'm strongly intuitive. lol Also those things are Big Five inventories. Are there any proven correlation between big five and mbti?

Wow.................... an ENTP Luddite now that is a shocking sight indeed. Watches to me are a mere accesory that I am often tempted to wear due to my 3 fix telling me it will make me be more respected and I will only wear a expensive watch nothing less for that reason.

Hell I'd carry a pocket watch if I had the proper attire to compliment one. That's style. A cellphone is a necessary eyesore.

Anyway I don't like hot tubs. I'm not spaghetti.

Tan? Hah I'm of Irish heritage I don't tan so much as I turn various shades of red.

Talk about blah blah blah. Trivial subjects.

I've got one tattoo of spiritual significance to me.

Poetry? Not really.

If I dislike one thing more than country music, it's opera.

Marijuana? Hahaha! Yeah I've had a little in my time.

Swearing? Yes hell and damn mostly. But f bombs abound when I'm properly pissed off.

I hate wine. Aged Scotch please.

Sweets are my downfall.

I lose my temper but not as much as when I was in my teens.

I make fun of deplorable people yes.

true things are bolded and italicized... and then there's all the questiony things, like "does spending time in a hot tub count as extroverted if you're spending your time in it alone and reading?" and "what if you would attend the opera but no operas happen anywhere near you?"

also, guess I'm not agreeable or conscientious

Read fewer books. - How many books does the average person read per year?

So, depending on sources, looks like median number of books for US adults is between four and six (although that's based on self-reporting), with between 75% to 80% of US adults reporting that they read a book in the past year (although again... self-reporting). US adults tend to read less than adults in many other countries.

The average number of books read per person per year is higher, since people who read a lot read a LOT.
