    Default What's Your Cultural Profile?

Erin Meyer's cultural assessment tool published in the Harvard Business Review back in 2014: https://hbr.org/web/assessment/2014/...ltural-profile I just came across it today.

There are no classifications per se, but it does show where you lie on various axes in relation to norms in your self-identified culture (read: nationality).

This was super interesting! Culture of relevance was USA. Compared to the average, I scored:

    Communicating Low-context - High-context
    Norm: 0.45/15
    Me: 8/15

Evaluating Direct negative feedback - Indirect negative feedback
    Norm: 6.75/15
    Me: 12/15

    Persuading Principles-first - Applications-first
    Norm: 14.25/15
    Me: 6/15

    Leading Egalitarian - Hierarchical
    Norm: 3.6/15
    Me: 7/15

    Deciding Consensual - Top-down
    Norm: 9.6/15
    Me: 8/15

    Trusting Task-based - Relationship-based
    Norm: 0.45/15
    Me: 3/15

    Disagreeing Confrontational - Avoids confrontation
    Norm: 6.6/15
    Me: 11/15

Scheduling Linear time - Flexible time
    Norm: 3.3/15
    Me: 11/15

The only thing I wish this quiz included was a "what culture are you most similar too" approximation.

Communicating: extremely low context, concrete, face value like Germany, US, Netherlands

Evaluating: surprisingly extremely low in direct feedback - indirect like Mexicans (or sarcastic English people?)

Persuading: application first like English and American people (more about how things actually work, than principles)

Leading: more egalitarian like Scandinavia and Israel (everyone has a word, true democracy)

Deciding: though in decision making I trust experts, like Americans

Trust: my trust is task/work based like American, UK, Germany - we practically work well together, therefore I trust you more than someone I laughed with

Disagreement - again, very surprisingly, I take a dim view of public disagreement, like Asians, and prefer private argument or see it as non-productive (Japan, Thailand)

Oh gosh, I am not your typical german:

    Communication: 9 towards high-context (Norm: 3.6)
Evaluation: 10 towards indirect negative feedback (Norm: 1.2)
    Persuasion: 10 towards Applications-First (Norm: 3.3)
Leading: 6 towards egalitarian (Norm: 9.35)
    Deciding: 8 towards top-down (Norm 4.2)
    Trusting: 10 towards relationship-based (Norm: 3)
    Disagreeing: 8 towards avoids-confrontation (Norm: 1.35)
Scheduling: 8 towards flexible time (Norm: 0.45)

Except for scheduling I agree with everything for me and the rest of the country. I pride myself in punctuality and have a good repuation for it.
