As usual, the most ambiguous area for me is intuition vs sensation

It makes a lot of sense, looking at the numbers. A clear-cut thinker, yet I think my I'm more compassionate than reasonable, and mostly dominant in the Perceiving traits, yet I do like to get an early start on projects more often than not.

Oh, the Thinking vs Feeling questions. I fiddled with those numbers the most. "Tends to show tenderness and caring in achieving their goals" doesn't make sense to me. In the Empathetic description, it says Feelers "tend to place relationships above all other things in their hierarchy of importance, to the point of feeling that they are the basis of life's meaning." I would have agreed if they meant relationships between any subjects. From the way Logical is phrased, it seems they mean relationships between people.

I liked Experiential vs. Theoretical. I think that's what makes me feel less N-like. I tend to rely on past solutions instead of finding new ones unless the situation is different, and when learning new things I look to how others have done them. I'd definitely consider myself more conceptual than theoretical. My own theories owe much to what has come before.

I really like this self-assessment thing! Results seem pretty much what I get from tests too. :nice:

Edit: am I really the first to score higher on traditional than original? It seems a lot of people are averse to that word and attracted to the other. Although Urarienev scored evenly so there's that I guess.

Apart from with those I'm close with, I never initiate conversation. I tend to keep my thoughts to myself among those I'm not close with, but I will chime in if there's something I feel I should contribute to a discussion. I prefer having a small group of friends, but I like how we are all very different from each other. I like taking part in things, but I prefer to observe others do them and reflect on my thoughts. I tend to be very lively and talkative among those I'm close with, but sometimes I prefer to remain silent and get lost in my thoughts.

I am completely fascinated by abstract ideas, but at the end of a conversation, no matter how good the logical arguments for it are, if there is no evidence to back it up, I'm not going to be convinced of it. The middle three were though, nearly a 2.5 for each of them, but the intuitive ones won for each of them. For the last one, I couldn't care less about what is traditional and what isn't - I am a total individualist (not saying I'm some unique, special individual, but I think everyone should be how they want to be regardless of what others think).

My most polarized one. Yes, I use logic in all my decisions. I try to be objective all the time but I can't help but take pity on people who would get the short end of the stick in such situations - when I'm a third party weighing in, I'm objective, but when it's me and someone else, I try to be as compassionate as possible. I don't mind hurting people's feelings or offending them if it's for the best, but I try to be as nice as possible, since it's advantageous to stay on people's good side. Again, I don't mind offending people if it's for the best, and when it comes to solving problems, people's feelings are irrelevant. I respect that people have different views, but I'm not going to back down on what I think is right for the sake of other people's feelings - they need to convince me logically that they're right if they want to change my mind.

I plan everything in order to be efficient. However, I also plan to have free time in case I feel like doing something I didn't plan for, or something interferes with my plans. I plan things out early... As a form of procrastination... So I can know how long I can put off doing things that I don't want to do - what can I say? Pressure gives me adrenaline. Again, I like planning things, but I plan them according to what I want to do, not according to some of set of rules or whatever. And yeah, I like being methodical in how I do things.

My splits don't total five because I refuse to dichotomize things that exist in tangent. So I just rated everything individually 1-5. I find it interesting how most INFPs are close on the T/F. Just goes to show how Fe those descriptors are.

So this is like the official Step II eh? Time to necro the thread!

E (8) / I (17)

S (17) / N (8)

T (13) / F (12)

J (12) / P (13)

Barely ISTP! Though I was probably being completely arbitrary on T/F... I relate to both.

Hi all! I just wanted to chime in on this thread, as I wrote the article it is based on. This is NOT the official Step II assessment, obviously, but the descriptions given are of the 40 facets measured on the official Step II assessment. The facets ARE dichotomies. If you were to take the assessment, you would come out as either side or in the middle (an indication that you swing between the facets situationally), and you would be either in or out of preference, depending on your type. You do NOT get scores on all 40 facets. Also, you could technically have all 5 facets out of preference and still be of the stated type (ex. Extravert with all Introverted facets). These facets are part of a preference, but they do not add up to the entire preference.

The scoring on this instrument is quite complex... Some facets are determined by 5 or 6 questions, while others are determined by only 2 or 3. Also, unlike your 4-letter type, which stays with you throughout life, your facets can change over time depending on a variety of factors, and most people only have 1 or 2 facets show up as out of preference, with some having more and some having none. Yes, this assessment is pretty pricey. I wrote the article so that people who couldn't take the assessment for whatever reason would know what it's about, but know that people trying to self-assess facets almost always claim to have more facets out of preference than the assessment would indicate.

Here's the article MBTI® Step II: The 40 Facets of the 16 Types | Personality Playbook, and please feel free to ask me if you have any questions. I am happy to answer! ~Sadie

Thank you - What I find interesting is that almost everyone did it that way anyway, the total of each dichotomy of almost every person who posted remains a steady 5, even when the rule wasn't stated.

That in itself provides support to the notion that they might actually be dichotomies, successfully representing apposing traits.

To be fair, the actual Step II results report facets on a normalized scale of +30 to -30, effectively. So regardless of the number of items used to calculate the result, they are all normalized to a range.
