I THINK (based on what I remember from school psych) even low self-monitorers observe their own behavior, they're just not worried about how it fits in.

Maybe you're just a bad one.

And I'm don't recall the chameleon effect being a characteristic of INFJs.

Question for you... what is Fe if not a chameleon? I suppose I tried to hard to please people in the past. So much so that the real me is now lost amidst the layers of self and acceptable selves.

I think that pleasing people and mirroring people are different.

But I don't know anything about MBTI. I suggest you PM Jennifer with that question.

I think that pleasing people and mirroring people are different.

It depends on how you define "pleasing people."

Mirroring seems to occur when one possesses anxiety over not instinctively knowing how to relate to others (especially strangers), so you observe them and reflect back to them the style [and general content approach] they show to you... to reduce the possibility of mishap or discomfort.

On one level, this could be considered "pleasing people" (you're giving them what you perceive they naturally would want, since it's what THEY do)... but on another level, this is very different than the general trait some people have of just wanting to make others happy by giving to them or fulfilling their desires.

That sort of "people-pleasing" is different, it's meant to gratify rather than just to ease potential conflict or avoid mistakes, and I would make a distinction.

I changed my mind:
