I think cynicism should be a third dimension to the political compass.
When people accuse me of being cynical, I've never ever heard someone give me a reason why I was wrong in my assessment of something. I think people are just angry because I reminded them of their own uncertainty.

A pessimistic attitude is useful in some situations, and an optimistic attitude is useful in others. This statement also makes it sound like I have a better handle on this than I actually do.
