I think you may have misread my "shouldn't" as a "should." That is, I think the editorial should be able to be discussed.

If I'm wrong and/or if you see any other points of improvement in what I said, let me know.
Anyway, it's good to know you guys are now giving this stuff serious thought.
More common sense. European focus but lots of helpful info and discussion: Starting points for combatting hate speech online.
Good stuff. I read through the starting points report, and I was pleased to find that it didn't essentially simply proclaim that "EVERYTHING IS HATE SPEECH".

[Just out of curiosity, I clicked on the link bologna quoted above and my computer gave me the ol' "this is a potentially hazardous download" spiel while not actually opening another page. Anyone else getting that?]

I didn't misread you at all. I just expressed surprise that you are struggling with where to draw the lines, since this is something that we expect 9th graders to be able to do...

The struggle, of sorts, tends to be much more in how to deal with instances of it in threads rather than where to draw lines. Implementation rather than definition. Defining such speech isn't so difficult; dealing with it as per my example on the last page is something that requires a bit more thought.

As long as we don't start having permabans for something that reduces to nothing but sheer unpopularity, you guys have my vote.
