Why? Because when the reputation system was instituted we had no clue how successful it was going to be and how fast members would zoom to the top of the pops. Currently the disparity between those with more reputation power and those without is intimidating. We seek to make the rep system more equitable.

    Some quick FAQs:

Q: Will points be reset to zero?
A: As yet undecided. But don't be surprised if they are. Like hair, grass, and debt the points will grow back.

Q: Will users lose their current reputation comments?
A: If points are reset to zero, probably will. If there's strong sentimental value attached to comments, I suggest you copy and paste to notepad ASAP. If there is a way to reset to zero and still save comments we'll try to work it out.

Q: What are the point levels?
A: We think it would be a nice surprise not to reveal what the new categories are.

Q: Will the reputation system be changed again?
    A: Maybe.

We would like your input for the names of the new user reputation levels.

    Change is good.
    Transparency is not a crime

Hang on, Falc thinks that already happened once.

If this is not the second incarnation of MBTIc then Flac needs to go and see a shrink.

I agree...and I think that the current system already does that, because virtually everyone has the max. I kinda like that. I only still have mine blanked on principle, really.

But oh well, if popularity contest it must become, so be it.

edit: btw, I do like the idea of capping the amount of rep you can give, or having it be governed by an external factor like post count, join date, or something similar rather than by your rep.

Exactly. If the little green bars are already meaningless, why do we have to make them a big deal? Even if there's a system, it'll still be a meaningless popularity contest. Some people will be ornery and give trolls points, some people will give lots of points to their friends. It's still going to be based on personality and not merit. No one will come to the site and go, "Hey! I should listen to this dude! He's got LOTS of green bars! He must be the king!" The green bars still won't really mean anything. Why start over and give them inflated importance? If people already don't pay attention to them, why not just go with it and use it as a comment system?

    Yes, but LOL

If points can only be given on certain threads... then what?

So, if there is a way to elminate the categories and points values (and little green bars) and keep the comments, it seems like everyone likes that idea best. I'm not sure if this is a possibility, but I'll look into it.

    Yes please!

If the little green bars must stay... set it so people give 0 rep... that way it'll just be a box of nothing that sits around. Or go into the mod itself and change the code... *shrugs*
