If we left the green bars as they currently are, then new users would never get them. It has been established that many people do take these things seriously so IMO we should just level the playing field once and for all.

*agrees with ivy* It'll look at little strange to newcomers for the older members to have green bars but their's stay blue.

I think if you guys are willing to go to all that work, it's a great idea. It retains the positive aspects and eliminates the negative ones.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

But I only take it seriously to gain perspective about what the other posters think of me...

However, it is quite a bit harder to make this retroactive (and to delete the green bars and past points). It involves going into individuals' settings and manually changing their rep level to zero. This would delete former points, and preserve all comments.

    What do you all think?
So you can zero out the rep points, but you can't zero out the green bars? So some people would have a lot of green bars and some folks would only have a couple, or none, etc. It would be an inequitable feature, so in a way, that's kind of not an option, unless we decide to just ignore it, accept it, and live with it. But it would be unfair to new people.

Manually changing each individual's rep level to zero would delete the green bars, delete the points, and preserve the comments, which many people desire, including me.

This would be tedious and time consuming and possibly cause the carpal tunnel to act up, but would be the best and most appreciated choice.

I personally would appreciate it if you would do option 2.
    Maybe you could get help.

INTJmom, zeroing the points deletes the green bars, and that is exactly what they are doing, and apparently they are quite swift.
