Our Ventrilo voice/text chat has been a pretty consistently popular feature of the site. We're happy to offer it to you all, and some of us have enjoyed chatting there ourselves. It's a more casual, relaxed environment that offers a different kind of communication from the rest of the forum.
A few recent instances have brought to our attention that we need to make something clear about Vent. The same rules apply in Vent that apply on the forum as a whole. There is not always (not even usually) a mod or admin present, and even when there is, mods/admins are there to chat and have fun just like everyone else. But it is not an unmoderated space. The same folks are responsible for what happens in both environments, so if serious rules are broken in Vent, the consequences might be getting kicked off the Vent server temporarily, or banned from Vent temporarily or permanently if it keeps happening. There could also be instances where a warning/infraction on the forum is in order.
This isn't meant to ruin everyone's fun. We're not going to kick you out or give you an infraction for dropping F-bombs in chat or being playful in a harmless way. Like I said, we're not usually there so if it doesn't bother anyone present at the time, no one is likely to report it. But if one or more mods/admins are there or are summoned for serious insults, slurs, harassment, links to porn or harmful websites, and other such stuff, it may be dealt with.
People can and have reach out for help in one of the Vent threads on the forum. You can also ask for help by PMing a mod or admin. Another way to hail a playground attendant is to do "Report Post" on one of your own posts on the forum, and make clear in the text of your report that you are asking for help in Vent along with a short description of what's going on. The "Report Post" function sends email to each of the mods & admins, so that increases your chances for timely help if no one is signed into the forum at the time. Like all reports, we respect your privacy and won't go spreading it around that you made a report.
Thanks to everyone!
