    Folks,
The very first item in the FAQ deals with flaming. Flaming, or insulting, another member is not OK on this site, no matter where you do it. This includes reputation comments, visitor wall comments, posts in threads, and so on. Insulting another member in any of these contexts may lead to a warning or infraction.

In an effort to add greater transparency to moderating actions and to keep discussions and debate civil and relevant the madmins will use the “Ban User from Thread” tool more frequently.

When a poster(s) is banned from a thread the banning madmin will post what thread they are banned from and why they were banned in a mini-Banned and Damned thread specifically in the Politics, History, and Current Events, Philosophy and Spirituality, and Sexuality and Mature Topics subforums.

Reasons for banning a user from a thread (fluffing, derailing, flaming, etc.) are outlined in the FAQ and General Code of Conduct.
Relationships have normal ebbs and flows. They do not automatically get better and better when the participants learn more and more about each other. Instead, the participants have to work through the tensions of the relationship (the dialectic) while they learn and group themselves and a parties in a relationships. At times the relationships is very open and sharing. Other time, one or both parties to the relationship need their space, or have other concerns, and the relationship is less open. The theory posits that these cycles occur throughout the life of the relationship as the persons try to balance their needs for privacy and open relationship.

The Ignore Thread: Allow Users to Ignore Threads of Their Choosing plugin is now installed.

This hack adds an "Ignore Thread" option to the thread tools menu and generates a list of threads you have ignored in your UserCP. Basically it allows your users to ignore threads of their choosing, preventing said threads from showing up in forumbit, forumdisplay, and search results.

To use this feature click on the thread you want to ignore go to Thread Tools>Ignore this Thread.

To view your ignored threads go to UserCP>Settings & Options>Ignored threads.

Hello all you typomembers on there in internet land,

Please remember that there should be nothing profane, troll-like, advertising or otherwise naughty in anything repeatable - names, usertitles, avatars, signatures and so on.

    Greetings Earthlings,
Please note the following addition to the forum's FAQ:

    Hey sweeties,

Some of y'all have noticed that we changed the way the forums mark as read. It used to be tied to your IP address and whenever cookies were cleared, everything was marked read (i.e. whenever you logged out). Now, we have switched to the database (automatic forum marking) style. This option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. Forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read. All threads older than 7 days are automatically marked as read.

This means no thread with a new post in the last 7 days will be marked as read unless you actually read it. No matter how often you log in or out of the forum.

This also means that New Posts and your user CP list of subscribed threads works differently now. When you post in a thread, it no longer shows up in New Posts and your user CP the next time you access it- it's automatically marked read because you posted in it. You can still find those threads in their particular subforum, or by clicking Today's Posts in the Quick Links dropdown menu at the top of the forum. Today's Posts is like New Posts used to be, sort of, and we're working on getting a link to it directly on the toolbar so you only have to click once instead of twice to get to it. See? We do love you guys.

    UPDATE!

Look at your navigation bar (which I now know is what it's called), in between "Live New Posts" and "Search." You will find a handy new button called "Today's Posts." This button will give you an approximation of your old "New Posts" experience, if you want that. It was accessible before in the "Quick Links" dropdown, but we've added it to the navbar for one-click access.

    So, to reiterate:

    • Today's Posts gives a list of all threads updated in the past 24 hours, beginning with the most recently updated.
    • New Posts gives a list of all UNREAD threads in the past 7 days, beginning with the most recently updated.
    • If you subscribe to threads, your userCP only lists the unread ones, but at the bottom of that list you can click on "View All Subscribed Threads" to see (duh) all subscribed threads, beginning with the most recently updated.

We've gotten a lot of requests to change forum names and given the number of members, forum traffic, and volume we've decided to make name change requests a more formalized process.

Please do not PM madmin staff with requests for name changes. All name changes and corrections are to be placed within the name change thread in the Feedback forum. Be patient, your name will be changed within a timely manner.

Below are the new guidelines for name change requests. General forum rules always apply and keep username requests PG-13, please. No discussions or thank yous are to occur in this thread...this is purely meant for name change requests.
    1. Official name changes are granted once every six months. Members can only have official name changes a maximum of twice. If you have already had at least two name changes, sorry you've maxed out.
    2. Request for username changes that contain your real name or a minor change such as correcting a typo, adding a symbol, or changing capitalization are not counted as an official name change. Please don't abuse this.
    3. Check to ensure the username you want isn't already taken. Please note the Members List does not show every member of the forum. To check if a username is already taken, go to User CP>Your Control Panel>Private Messages>Send New Message and start typing in the username you want in the "To" box. As you type each letter, wait for a drop-down box to appear, suggesting various recipients/members. Give it a while, it takes a few seconds to load. Once you have typed in the full username you want, wait to see if the drop-down box appears. If it does, it means that username is taken. If it doesn't appear, you're free to request for a name change.

Please use this template for Name Change Requests:

    Current Username:
Please Change To (exactly as you want it to appear):
I've officially changed my username [number] times now.

Okay. I'm super pissed and ready to rock. I think I speak for the whole madmin team (yes, we do talk to each other) when I say that.

Just what in satan's nutsack is going on here lately? A small but growing handful of forum members seem to believe that they have a license to regurgitate their personal dramas on the forum for all to see and completely ignore the guidelines in the FAQ, even after a variety of reminders such as PMs, in-thread warnings, formal warnings and infractions, and short bans. Some here complain about being treated like children. Let the record reflect that acting like children will result in said treatment. Time outs may follow.
