Default Planet Earth

Has anyone seen this BBC series? It's a couple of years old and I haven't seen it but I got the entire 6 DVD series for $20 and I've started watching it.

In the little I've watched so far the first thing that moved me was when they talked about the endangered Amur leopard, now the rarest cat in the world. I've always heard about endangered species but I never knew JUST how endangered some of them were. Apparently, there are only 35-40 of them left and only 6 of those are females. So sad. We truly may see the end of their kind if they don't multiply rapidly or if they get poached.

Here's a picture. It's beautiful cat with a thicker fluffier fur (I'm partial to fluffy cats) than most other leopards.

Yep, it's one of my favorite shows. I'll probably buy it someday, but it'll be in Blu-Ray.

I own it and used to watch it obsessively. It's pretty breathtaking.

I love the episode that includes the fish that I keep (Lake Malawi Mbuna cichlids) in their natural habitat!

The anthropology types might like Baraka. I can send a veoh link if anyone wants one (assuming it's still up).

-How beautiful, this pale Endymion hour.
-What are you talking about?
-Endymion, my dear. A beautiful youth possessed by the moon.
-Well, forget about him and get to bed.
-Yes, my dear.

I'm interested. Anthropology was one of my possible majors back in the day.

I second the Baraka suggestion.

Microcosmos is wonderful as well.

My parents have the series on DVD. Isn't there one called "Blue Planet" or something for the ocean life? They have that too. I haven't watched them but I've really been wanting to. I'd like to see it on blu-ray....

Watch it with me, Beat? We'll report what we liked/disliked back here.

Thumbs up

Sounds good . However my parents live far away. I did see part of the series used at suncoast... If not that I'll try to watch a bit when I go home on leave in a couple weeks (if my little brother hasn't lost/ruined the discs yet).

I'd really like to watch the ocean one especially.
