If you were to assign colours to the temperaments, what would they be? And why?

my suggestion (in order of "certainty")

SP: red
NT: blue
NF: yellow
SJ: green

mark that "grey" is not considered to be a colour :D

what do you mean by "assign colors". do they have symbolistic meaning or...my point is just this: what are you getting at what. what is the point?

im just curious...not trying to be cynical or anything :)

Yes, exactly that, the colour would have to have a symbolic value.
RED: action: SP
Blue: cool, rational: NT
...

I just use the original humour colors, but with a twist:

SP - Sanguine - blood - red
SJ - Melancholic - black bile
NT - Choleric - yellow bile
NF - Phlegmatic - green

This reverses Keirsey's NF/NT assignments to the humours. But the NT's need for mastery and competence is more traditionally Choleric, while the NF's diplomacy and even its people-focus is traditionally Phlegmatic. (Keirsey judged it only by "enthusiasm" as opposed to "coolness", but the familiar "loud, hot-headed" aspect of choleric is best matched by the In Charge interaction style, rather than an action temperament. So Interaction + Conation are actually two four temperament systems mapped to the 16 types).

@Eric: very nice. I forgot about that. I like the adjustment you suggest.

@mlittrell: explaining the temperaments to people new in MBTI might be easier through the use of colours. The letters are confusing at first.

True Colors list them as:

SP - Orange
NT - Green
NF - Blue
SJ - Gold

If red is passion, it's gonna be ENFJ
Or, if NT's are choleric then that's also about being passionate so maybe red's ours.

There are two kinds of black: classy/clean black and depression black. Like the difference between a crisp, new tux and the eyeliner round an emo kid's eyes. Maybe ENTJ is the first and ...who's the second?

I like a nice midnight blue, personally. Or crimson.
Somebody who seems very sincere about believing themselves to be psychic tells me I have a white aura, whatever that means. I'm not really into that kinda stuff. But she says I spong. *shrug*

So like, maybe if auras can have different colours and the colours have meanings then maybe there's an aura colour that corresponds to the typical traits of each type?

SP: Royal blue/mahogany
NT: Raw umber/eggshell
NF: Raw umber/lime
SJ: Royal blue/forest green

There's nothing special to it. I simply identify the acronym's colors via my chromagraphemia.

I've always naturally associated the four temperaments with colours (just as I associate the personalities of the people I know with shades of colours). Each temperament gives me a different "feel" which is similar to the "feel" of a particular colour. The associations are made very subconsciously and not rationally at all. This how I see the temperaments with regards to colours:

NT = Blue (Te - Dark/Navy Blue, Ti - Pale/Sky Blue)
NF = Red (Fe - Pink, Fi - Crimson)
SJ = Silver or Gray
SP = Gold or Yellow or Orange
