This seems like a 2011 problem. When I joined the forum, I saw very little of this supposed INFJ fetishization and if anything, people seemed to trash talk that type more than anything else. Perhaps this was part of some backlash. I wasn't even aware initially that this is supposedly the rarest type, and I have yet to see any really hard or convincing evidence to back that oft repeated claim.

It appears the machines at the MBTI factory are a bit off their normal proportions and are churning out INFJs at an unprecedented rate.... I would say they'll get on top of it soon, but a lot of us happen to enjoy INFJs so we aren't really doing anything.

In all seriousness though, I think a lot of types seem to mistype as a INFJs. Particularly the other NFs. I'm reallu not sure as to why though

TBH I don't think as many of them want to be "special snowflakes" as some probably suspect. I could argue that there is overlap with certain parts of 4 and INFJ descriptions (specifically the "feeling like an alien in the world" thing), and 4s do seek to be unique, and INFJs are supposed to be unique. On the other hand, I think the INFJ memes / descriptions are just too barnum partially. A lot of people can relate to things like "feeling alien," and "able to seem like multiple types and blend with others," (which is more overlap with 9 than 4 in contrast to the last part) and "being private." The descriptions are probably just relatable to a lot of types in general and too many people fail to dive into credible resources or seek authentically reliable input.
