Default People who keep telling you the same stories and jokes over and over

-Hey, do you know that joke about the blonde woman who whatever'
(yeah, you told it like three times already)
-Oh, that sounds fun, tell it. (+1 Fe point added)

Maybe that's just because they tend to have a lot of acquaintances and to be aware of past conversations with numerous people would take too much mental effort... But I suspect some cognitive functions play a role here as well.

    Thoughts?

There is a woman who I believe is ENFJ at my work who retells the same stories over and over. I think she is trying to get us to understand her point and change our behavior accordingly - very ENFJ. But of course if I don't agree with her premise, I'm not going to change my behavior to suit it, no matter how many times she conveys her point. It can lead into interesting discussions, though.

I would think that SJ would be related to repetition but IME I haven't experienced much to support that. My ESFJ mom and ISFJ boyfriend will rehash situations that bother them until they've worked through them but I feel like that's a very F thing to do, and I feel like I do that too.

My INTP 5w6 dad can repeat the same logical arguments against things he despises (health insurance policies, politics, safety concerns, etc), and in that I see T/5 anger against illogical systems.

It seems like in general people bring up topics again and again that cause them cognitive dissonance or that really get at their core beliefs/values/theories/thoughts?

I can't relate that to jokes, though. I don't really know anyone who cracks bad jokes repeatedly and am grateful for that

I do it. I can't ever remember who I told what. I know I do it so I don't get huffy if people politely tell me they think I've already told them that.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

    Everyone does this.

I'm definitely guilty of this , mostly because I forget that I've said the same thing before.

Reminds me of the chicken salad story Jude Law's character tells in I Heart Huckabees.
    You hem me in -- behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

    *raises hand*

I usually do it coz I don't recall who Ive told which anecdote to. And coz some anecdotes become like familiar and precious trips down memory lane - they're just fun to retell. It's like listening to/telling a classic fairy tale - you all know how it is going to end but it is still fun if only for the nostalgia value of it.

    Dammit, I do that too!

Thought I was immune to it...

    Yep, that makes sense.
