I do think it involves both, because Se attaches thought to the real world and provides practical details. Se gives data and Ni synthesizes it, and Se grounds and provides context. My ISTP friend is really into this stuff too, but in a different way. He focuses on the Se with stocking up food and researching gadgets and the economy.
