    Default Function hierarchies

I'm new to the forum and to mbti. From what I understood, it wasn't meant to be a hierarchy but a tool to understand and value differences in others. But, from what I've seen most people value the same functions over others. I understand that people naturally prefer their own functions, though that self-satisfaction may be type-dependent, but did I misunderstand the point? Are some functions genuinely more valuable? If so, which ones and why? Should those that lack those more valuable functions seek to cultivate them instead of their own?

I'm also confused by the degree to which we can develop our shadow functions? Have others had success with this?

No function is more valuable than any other. They are just symbols for the different ways in which individuals understand the world. The shadow functions usually remain in the unconscious because your conscious function stack contains all the tools one needs. It's actually a terrible idea to try and develop the shadow because they are not your natural state, and you'd end up using them unhealthily.

Interesting. What would be an example of an unhealthy use of a function?

In all seriousness, though, what is the difference between that and unhealthily engaging and inferior function?

I like Introverted Thinking because nobody else wuvs it. Poor introverted thinking needs wuv, too. Introverted Thinking is one of us. Just a stranger on the bus.

Why does no one else love it ? It seems to me that the only somewhat beloved introverted function is Ni.

It was kind of an exagerration, but a lot of people do see it as dead, empty and joyless. I see it as a lamp, trying to illuminate everything, unafraid of what it might find in the shadows.
