That's called diplomacy

If that's what you're actually doing. Because what might look diplomatic can look passive-aggressive to everyone else. There is a huge difference. Going to great lengths to avoid people and invent excuses or simply refusing to communicate, instead of standing up and saying what you want doesn't show anything but fear.
