What cognitive function is this?

So I have shit memory except for music, which is where probably 90% of my brain activity is concentrated on. And there's something weird happening, I'd like to know what cognitive function is associated with it.

Basically I'm very good at listening to a melody, or maybe even beat or timbre and automatically associating it with something else. It doesn't have to be a song I know well, if I heard it once, it will be registered in my mental library and I will be able to associate every new song (or part of song whatever) to it.

For example, it works like this:
I was listening to Spoek Mathambo for the first time yesterday. There was a small melody. My brain made a big ping, recognizing it automatically as something I'd heard before. I was also sure it was distorted and had a different tempo. Then I searched for it, and my brain told me "French" but it also gave me conflicting information "funk" and I was confused. Then it said "Gnarls Barkley" and I went for the first song I thought was right, and it was right. But there was something missing. Then my brain said "Louise Attaque" and again I found the song immediately.
Spoek Mathambo, Louise Attaque and Gnarls Barkley are not my favorite artists. I've only listened to them once or twice. But the association was made and it was automatic.

Second example, was listening to A Tribe Called Quest. Again, my brain pinged real hard. First images were "western music"; "sad"; "reflective". Then it said "woman". Out on a limb I had an intuition for Bran Van 3000. Went on Youtube, and it was the correct song.
These two bands, again, are not my favorite bands and I didn't know the songs well.
Also, I listen to at least 5 new artists everyday, so it's not like my mental music library consists of 10 artists, it's actually pretty huge.

What is it? Si? Ne? Fi? Ni even? Thank you so much.

Ne? I noticed Ne types tend to make reactive associations about things in their immediate environment that tie to other essences and images, not stuttering to make references to something clever as though it's instinctual, while Ni tends to be a lot more pensive and disconnected, slowly drawing out a whole process about something abstract, kind of like there are all these different parts they're searching for rather than one thing.

But it might be because you have primary intuition rather than it being some weaker function, so it is just my guessing. Both Ne and Ni are a gift for 'pulling things out of nowhere' but they manifest in different ways.

@polijujm thanks. It could well be Ne. But then, can it be Ne if these things are all inside my head?

You're forming associations between things that had their origin in external reality. It's not as if you can't form associations from memories of those things.

Methinks it's a pretty Ne/Si characterized process. Si being semiconscious in our case gives a mysterious, internal quality to these thematic pings to aid us in the perpetual Ne search-weave-intuit machine.

Sounds like NeTi. (With Ti providing the logical categories). I could relate to some of that as well.

I can relate too. Could there also be some Si thrown in there as well since I rely on my memory bank? Even if its a song I've heard for the first time, I compare it to other songs I'm familiar with where I know the artist and sometimes I can guess the artist of a song I've heard for the first time because it sounds similiar to another song.

Si provides the "relief" aspect of enjoying what we remember (reliving).
