So what is the personality type of your mother, your father and your type?

What about your grandparents on your mother side and father side?

Please write your formula:
MOTHER TYPE + FATHER TYPE = YOUR TYPE

MOTHER SIDE:
GRANDPA TYPE + GRANDMA TYPE = YOUR MOTHER TYPE

FATHER SIDE:
GRANDPA TYPE + GRANDMA TYPE = YOUR FATHER TYPE

Let´s see if there are any significant correlation or patterns.

Thanks.

ESFJ (mom) + ISXJ (dad) = INTP (me!)

I don't see much of a correlation there. Hmm...

I have no idea what my grandparents' types are. My dad's parents died before my parents got married. I don't know my mom's parents that well.

Is it possible that functions are hereditary but the order in which they are developed is based upon life experience?

Oh...anyway ESFP + ExTP = Me

Mom's parents: ISTJ + ISFx

Dad's parents: No idea

However, I can tell you that there seem to be an inordinate number of FP women in my family.

And there are possibly THREE NFs amongst me and my sisters, with two possibly being SFP, my mother being ESFP and I showing some vauguely SP traits though I'm NF.

My parents were older when they got married and started to litter the five of us, with me as the youngest. So I don't remember my grandparents much beyond nice or evil, since they passed away when I was young.

ISFP + ESTJ = ENTJ
Nice but self-indulgent + overly nice doormat = ISFP
Nice but absent + Evil bitch (Si high for sure, xSTJ) = ESTJ

ISFJ (SiFe) + ENTP (NeTi) = INFP (FiNe)

Neither of my parents prefer Fi. My sisters is ESFP, and neither of my parents prefer Se either.

MOTHER SIDE:
ISTJ grandpa (SiTe) + ESFJ grandma (FeSi) = ISFJ mom

It should be noted that all of their other children are Ns (INTP, INFJ & ENFP).

You're missing variables.

esfp grandma + istj grandpa = enfp mom+ istp uncle

my dad's mom died young and i don't know much about her, and his dad is completely and totally pussy whipped by his 2nd wife so if he has any personality left i'm not sure what type it would be (she's a batshit insane esfj)

This has been done before here in the forums, but don't think we found any correlations, not based on the small number of data anyway. I think if a mass data was done, we might be able to find something.

ENFJ + ISTJ = INFP

MOTHER SIDE:
? + SXJ = ENFJ

FATHER SIDE:
INFX + ESXJ = ISTJ

Out of all my extended family members, I like my grandfather the best. He is very similar to my father, but more spacey and very, very mellow. He is so sweet and unassuming.

My grandmother is loud and blunt, always smiling and laughing, not touchy-feely, quite critical, a tough woman who can take it.

My brother may be another ISTJ, however, like my father.

And in addition to this, for interest's sake:

Maternal uncle (ESTP) + aunt (ESFJ) = older female cousin (EsFJ) + younger female cousin (ISFP)

ISFJ Mum (SiFe) + ISTP Dad (TiSe) = INFP Me (FiNe) + ESTJ sister (TeSi)

Mother's side
ISTJ Grandfather (SiTe) + ISTJ Grandmother (SiTe) = ISFJ Mum (SiFe) + ESTJ (TeSi) + ISTJ (SiTe) aunts

Father's side
ESTP Grandfather (SeTi) + ISTJ Grandmother (SiTe) = ISTP Dad (TiSe) + ESFJ (FeSi) + ESTP (SeTi) + ISTJ (SiTe) uncles

Basically there's a whole lot of Si but no dom/aux Fi or Ne in my family. I must be a mutant.

But seriously, I believe functions are just like other genetic traits; they have dominant and recessive genes. I guess I got the recessive genes.

As Rebe said, this has been done several times, but it is always interesting to see.

INFJ Dad + ENTP Mum = INTP (me), ISFP sister and ENTJ brother

INTJ grandpa + ESFP grandma = ENTP Mum (she got along with him better than with her)

ESTJ grandpa + ISFJ grandma = INFJ Dad (he did not at all get along with him)

ESTP Dad + ISFJ Mom = INTP (me) + ISFJ sister

ESTJ Poppop + ISFJ Nana = ISFJ mother (mom and nana were very much alike)

ISTJ Poppop + IxFP Nana = ESTP father (dad revered his mom and hated his father for much his life... but his mom died when he was in his 30's)

Bonus:
INTP (me) + ISFJ (ex) = INTP son + ESFP son + INFJ daughter (altho daughter was adopted)

ISTJ Dad + ISTJ Mom = ISTP daughter (What's sad is my ESTJ stepdad and ISTJ mom having an ADD ENFP son. Figure that one out. Poor kid.)

ESTJ Grandpa + ISFJ Grandma = ISTJ Dad
I don't know my mom's parents well enough to try to type them, but I think they're both IxTx. I should ask my mom what they're like. All I know is that although they're on good terms now, she did not get along with her mom growing up.

Grandparents died so long ago, that I can only remember that they were a bunch of SJ's and SP's.

Ah, this thread reminds me of an interesting point I [re]learned from a book a few weeks ago, re. genetics and differences between male and female. The book states that there are some significant ties to Cognition found on the X sex chromosomes (the Y chromosome apparently doesn't have a whole of importance for men, other than a few genes which indicate the path to 'male', and the Y chromosome has been losing genes over time at a startling rate. I'm simplifying, but this is the gist).

This is interesting because: Females will have certain genes on the X chromosome from their mother turned on, and certain other genes on the X chromosome from their father turned on. So the female is influenced by both mother and father - more of a mix. Whereas males will only have the X genes from their mother.

IF a fair amount of ones cognitive processing/traits reside on the X, perhaps translating into mbti-lingo, with females perhaps it's a tossup as to whether father/mother's line will have more influence? Whereas with males, perhaps it's more directly tied to mother's side only? The author was basically making the point, tongue-in-cheek, that there may be genetic truth to the phrase 'momma's boy'.

(hehe. This is all to say - there's a lot genetically that isn't terribly straightforward - most especially when trying to tie to mbti and the like :))

-------------------------------

To the OP:

My Mom: ISTJ
My Dad: ISFJ
Me: INFJ
Brother: INTP
Mom's Mom: ISFx
Mom's Dad: ISTJ
Mom's Sister: ISTP
Dad's Mom: ESFJ
Dad's Dad: INTJ
Dad's Sister: Absolutely no idea. Some form of xNTx.

ESFJ (Mama) + ISTP (Dad) = INTP (me), ESTJ (sister--up until recently, I thought she was ENTJ--no way!), and ESFP (sister)

Possible ISFP (grandfather) + ESFJ (grandmother) = ESFJ (mother)

Possible INFP (grandfather) + EXTJ (grandmother) = ISTP (dad)

Adding a Jennifer-style bonus:

INTP (me) + ESFJ (ex) = ISFP (son), XNFJ (daughter), INXP (son), EXTJ (son).
