I've seen ridiculous distribution theories all over the place, does anyone know of type distribution data from a reputable source?

Chances are distributions are going to differ in different cultures, so why don't you start by determining which culture's type distribution you're interested in finding...

CAPT owns the MBTI, so they can lay some claim to knowing what they are talking about. Here is what CAPT gives for distribution in the US: http://www.capt.org/mbti-assessment/estimated-frequencies.htm

Naturally, you may still want to go into their research literature and look at their data sources and methodology for yourself. I don't know where you would go for that exactly.
