Default Things that apply to all types

In my own journey to discover my type, I'm finding that some of the things I previously thought could have been type related, probably aren't.

For example, I think almost everyone wants some level of recognition and appreciation for what they do well.

Here are some other things that I think apply to all types:

*Need to feel safe and secure.

*Seeking what's pleasure or comfortable and avoiding pain and discomfort.

*Desire for acceptance for who we are as a person.

I'm sure there are lots of other things.

So what things strike you as transcending all 16 types? I'd like to hear them!

Ooooh, good thread - let's focus on what we all have in common, for awhile!

I think everyone needs to feel both like an accepted member of a group and a unique individual.
Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

Things that I think of as unrelated to type:
    *Personal interests
    *Memory and attention span
    *General intelligence
    *Motor skills
*Social isolation, alienation and/or general feelings of being misunderstood/misfit
    *Depression
    *Emotional stability, instability, or disturbance
    *Indecision and/or non-productivity
    *Escapism, fantasizing, daydreaming, absent-mindedness, etc.
*Frustration with the current status quo

For the most part, types are just loose templates. The type stamp can't be pressed too heavily on a person, or you'll misjudge that person entirely--which is completely contrary to the goal of the system anyway.

So, looking at what we have in common is a good thing

For one thing, neuroticism has nothing to do with type

Just look at those sweet, sweet low correlations to the MBTI dichotomies

    +1

    I'll add:

    -upbringing
    -social class/income
    -education
    -race/gender
    -nationality
    -...more, no doubt

There are really a staggering number of things that aren't type-related but influence personality. I'm almost surprised the types describe as well as they do.

I don't think self-esteem is type related either. There may be a small correlation for types that are considered more 'desirable' by one's culture to have slighly higher self-esteem but that's about it.

    How moral/immoral someone is

    How emotional someone is

Style of dress/the subculture one belongs to (i.e. yes, there are SJs who are pot smoking goths, etc.)

    Ambition

The search for something more/something deeper in life (maybe? not entirely sure about this one)

The Doorslam - Even though this is associated with INFJs, I think any type can doorslam another person if pushed to a certain limit (some types just have lower thresholds before doorslamming than others)
