The Eight Functions and Fence-Building

Ne - I want to design the fence.

Ni - Why do they want to do this and what is the deal with fences anyway? Is this necessary?

Se - I want to decorate the fence and make sure that it looks stylish and appealing

Si - I’ll take care of looking at the instructions and making sure that we follow the established guidelines.

Te - Is doing this cost effective? Will it be useful?

Ti - I want to analyze the structure and placement of the fence.

Fe - How will it affect the neighborhood, and what will the neighbors think?

Fi - I want it to be my own special fence that I can share with others over time

I like this one a lot. :) Very simple.

We should all pitch in and make one big thread with examples like this.

I love things like this. They describe each function concisely using a real life situation to do so. It helps newcomers to understand the basics of each function so that they're more easily identifiable.

Asking the Myers-Briggs type if the water is half-full or half-empty by Unknown - Source

ENFJ -- There's more than enough for friends to share.

ENFP -- Whooeee! Water fight!

INFP -- But look! A crystalline vessel, filled with shimmering, life-giving nectar!

INFJ -- Senator Hophnagle used the rest of it for his mud pie project.

ENTJ -- A "full" glass of water, please.

INTJ -- Yes, that glass will be the flivvium container.

ENTP -- Voila! .157 liters hydrogen hydroxide, prepared by micro gnomes ...

INTP -- Well, it seems just a little more than half full--assuming that it is water...

ESTJ -- Hey! Whose job was it to fill up this glass?

ESFJ -- I can't believe someone would leave this dirty glass out here! Clean up this mess right now!

ISTJ -- It's half empty now, and it wouldn't surprise me if it dried up completely.

ISFJ -- I bet _________ would like to have some water right now ...

ESTP -- You call that a glass of water? Why, back where I come from, ...

ISTP -- So? It's water. Big deal!

ESFP -- There's a glass of water--you know, it's healthy to drink a lot of water, why, I remember when I was growing up that
we...

ISFP -- (Holds up glass to the light, tilts it from side to side, tastes it, wiggles finger in it, grins slightly, moves on.)

Probable Criticisms of a political speech (e.g., State of the Union)

Fe = His plans don't really address the needs of normal people and his plans are a real snub to the people supporting him.

Fi = Does he really believe any of these things, or are they mere political convenience? What a slug.

Te = Not practical. Not realistic. Non-implementable. Empty-headed dreamer.

Ti = His ideas made no sense and his plans just did not follow, where's the consistency? (Dimwit.)

Ne = Even if we do it the way he says, there are a lot of things that could happen, and who knows what might change in the meanwhile?

Ni = There are a lot of OTHER ways to view this problem that I'd wish he'd consider.

Se = omg, so boring...! [changes channel] or "What speech? I was playing XBOX."

Si = *grimly* So much for "traditional" values, he's finally showing his true colors.

It's kinda cool that the combinations of the senses make sense too, sort of.

Like Ti-Se-Ni-Fi

-he's not talking sense --> so this is boring --> and where are the other views? --> he's not considering the people's perspective in this

and so on.

Very interesting.

Once again, I identify with the Ne, Ni, and Te descriptions.

(I also completely identify with the site's sample description of Ni.)

Here, I tend to identify with the ISTP example. And actually, that does seem to be a viewpoint that a nihilistic Ni type would have.

And the ESTP and ESFP sound a lot more like ESTJ and ESFJ, respectively.

This one's my favorite and probably the most accurate, I think.

ISTP: "I can make anything work"
ESFP: "I am the most glamorous"

ISTJ: "I do everything right"
ESFJ: "Everyone likes me and wants to be like me"
ISFJ: "Nobody can get along without me"

ENTJ: "I am all-powerful"
