A Professor is Asked a Statement

A little piece of history concerning an academic institution.
Place: Helsinki.
Date: 1937.

Israel-Jacob Schur was an Orientalist.
The thesis he had submitted as part of his Ph.D exertion was first accepted but then the decision was overturned.
He was denied the status because he was a Jew.

Today.
A professor of the institution is asked a statement.

The professor says this is an isolated case and it took place seventy years ago. It is not a burden to the (esteem of) the institution today. The discrimination of women that has taken place in the history of the academic world is a much more serious issue.

He is the professor of the Arab studies.

He entered the institution when still a child. He was given a privileged status right away. He earned it. He was a quick learner. His father had been a professor before him.

Why does he say it is an isolated case of discrimination? The only thing that makes it isolated is that an error took place: The thing that usually happens behind closed doors became public by an error. The thesis had been initially accepted.

There had been a blunder in the concealment of antisemitism.
He made the blunder look like an isolated case of antisemitism.

An old trick, to turn the table. He was a bit clumsy about it though. He recovered immediately with that clever remark about women.

I forgot to mention the subject of the thread.
For those who are not INTP:
It is hypocrisy.

Nah, I was joking.

Not about the subject though.
Have you encountered any hypocrisy in RL?
Tell the tale.

antisemitism really bothers you, doesn't it?

that seems like a more interesting topic anyways.

Yes. A good observation.
On the other hand.

The professor in question is not an antisemite. Nor does he engage in a cover up.
He is a loyal friend.
