How did you decide upon your type?

Typed as an INTJ on the dichotomies premised humanmetrics online test since the E/I dichotomy was solely focused on the social element. Posted on an INTJ centric site and noticed a definitive pattern difference between myself and INTJs. Some members pointed me towards resources that focused on cognitive functions, particularly the inferior function which nailed it for me as an eNTJ. Here and there, I still entertain the possibility of INTJ until I interact with them and then the divide is clearly noted. I'm high on assertiveness and low on sociability, not because I can't socialise from feeling drained but because of my cynicism towards the human race.

Did it ever occur to you they were actually ISTJs? When I used to read INTJf on a regular basis, I knew there was something wrong when so many knew nothing about Ni.

No doubt there are plenty of mistypes, whether ISTJ, INFJ or ISTP. But there are plenty of right typed individuals too, over the years, sufficient that I can't identify with them, regardless of typology site.

In my experience, most anyone mistyped as INTJ, if they are mistyped, would likely be INTP before anything else. The main reason the functions are interpreted so strictly and incorrectly is due to that problematic definition of J/P leaking in. Pe means "perception of outer experience" and has much less to do with any "P lifestyle." See post here for example.

Not sure I fully agree with everything in your post (not interested in debating the why right now) but I do agree that there are some INTPs who mistype as INTJs. Most manage to sort themselves out pretty quickly, particularly in J-heavy environments.

You are making something normal sound like it's pathological. (That "stuck in a loop" nonsense has been floating around the net for years.)

Thanks for the link.
Not sure which part seemed like I was making it pathological to you.
I'm not sure what I believe as far as loops go. In a way it seems like a Barnum Effect, thus why I called it a possible reason.

In case you were disagreeing due to convention, I don't follow convention because it disagrees with reality, I partly wrote this post for you, as well as anyone interested in how functions actually manifest in people, (in reality.)

That reality is akin to "Se extroverted perception (Immersion)" vs "Si introverted perception (Memory)" having very little to do with P vs J. This is the same as with Ne vs Ni. I'm sure LingkinPark agrees too.

Like I previously stated, I'm not going to discuss this with you and no, it has nothing to do with convention.

I've taken tests, did a lot of reading on the matter, and agreed that INTJ is the type I most identified with. I have no illusions of it being "superior" as I am quite aware of the weaknesses the type exhibits. Being 38 I've worked though a lot of "younger INTJ" nonsense on my own before I ever discovered typology. Still, it has helped me understand my wife (INFJ) better, and improved our communication.

I tend to test mostly TJ but I would say that I lean more towards FJ so ENFJ? But there's always the off-chance that I learned calculated empathy for survival purposes so at best Je.

I beat myself to a pulp with self analysis for five years straight and then realized that my initial guess had been right the whole time.

 considering the possibility that I might be ESTJ 4w3

 in that case, I must be in the grip of inferior Fi

I said to myself I am INTJ, then I looked online to find out what INTJ is.

Actually seems legit. Reminds me of Lenore's Ni description.

I typed in a similar way. I knew what Ni is from internal evidence, since INxx are my strongest dichotomies, ESxx are my weakest.

This was a while ago. Since then, I have done a lot of tests and interviews on people and their functions to realize where also I fall. Typical MBTI test doesn't work, you don't really need type descriptions either, as they have a lot of mistype info. Turns out all you need to type accurately is to realize what someone's preference order is. Ie. INTJ = I/N > T > F > S | INTP = I/T > N > S > F.

Besides studying and reading exhaustively about cognitive functions, I narrowed down the functions that I used, and looked back into the timeline of my life. I have kept the journals since I was a teenager, so going back to read what I wrote back then helped me to realized I've used a whole lot of Ni and Fe. I'm confident that I'm an IN so the only possibility is INFJ. The whole process took me months of studying and dealing with self doubts and a great deal of disillusion.

I haven't. I don't know how to make decisions. I just fill my hands with arrows and spin really fast and let centrifugal force do the rest.
Sorry about your eye.
I hear pirates are really in style right now.

I've just always known i'm ENFP since the beginning, i've never had doubts about my typing, it has been the same since the initial discovery. I had started from reading the type descriptions years ago and the only time when i had some confusion was very early on when i saw myself in different (mostly intuitive) types. Every time i've come across a good analysis of the type or the functions, it's always been like "wahhhhh this hit the nail in the head, it all makes sense nowww" haha
in fact, i've literally never tested as any other type lol

I'm still new to enneagram though and for the life of me can't decide if my gut fix is 8w9 or 9w8, also no idea about the wings for the other two fixes. But i'm pretty certain i'm a core 7 with a 4 heart fix nod nod

Amazingly I went on Youtube and there was a message in the comments on one of the videos: "Please quote and pass on this message, if you do please seal it with a kiss like this > "XXX", then after 10 days your true type will appear! Please pass this on, if you don't you will never discover your true type!"

And I did it, waited 10 days...and then my true type was revealed!

Please pass this on guys!! Real, no fake!!!

I read the descriptions of Ti, Ne and the whole type. It fit well enough so I rolled with it.
