Thread: Teach me your functions.

  1. #11

Ne: There are patterns everywhere waiting to be discovered! Almost everything affects something else in some way, shape or form. Observing, identifying and understanding this fulfills me! I have ideas! I have something to contribute to the fabric of human understanding! I validate our symbiotic existence!

Ti: Steady, now. Be precise. Be logical. Be cool. Think carefully about the implications of what you're saying. What do you hope to accomplish?

Fe: You gotta let the world know. YOU GOTTA TELL EVERYONE.

Ti: But please, don't be stupid about it. Please. Think it through. Have a plan of some sort.

Si: I'd like to point out that the last time you were this excited, you got yourself into a lot of trouble...

Ti: Damn it, Ne! Listen to the man!

    Ti: O_O

    Si: x_x

Freakin' lazy and quoting myself from another forum:

I can speak to Ne, and maybe Fi.. and maybe maybe Te.. from experience and my understanding of the stuff.

I'd say that Ne can describe my instinct, my "always in the background" mindset. First, it tells me that there's many ways to look at a particular situation. Second, I innately generalize. Thus, many times, I cannot help but feel that details are often unimportant and that narrow-minded people are often arrogant in their worldview, that they "should" seek out new perspectives. This is part of the bias that my particular pair of "leading function-colored glasses" gives me.

Fi probably explains why I'm prone to being relatively sensitive. And since I'm sensitive, I also have deep empathy for others, but I also often treat other people as if they're made of cheap porcelain; I can't help but treat people as I myself would like to be treated.. with care, respect, and a sense of their unique individuality. As much as I "theoretically" recognize that not everyone cares about this, I still can't fully correct for it.

Though it's a weaker and more immature drive, and it's not in my ego per se, Te looks for practicality and "real-world" rationale. I don't often delve into theories past a level where they'd be useful, for example. But this takes a backseat to the more powerful forces that guide my worldview.

Si: Observing external environment; classifying and organizing things into recognizable order, observing how they're similar or different to past experience.
Te: What's the point? How can this information be useful? What is the purpose of this thing?
Fi: Opinion-forming and value judgments. What does this mean? Is this good or bad? How do people benefit? How does this make me feel?
Ne: Evaluating future potential. In a negative way, I often see myself veering off into paranoia about what would happen if this thing were to break or collapse, and planning what I would do in such a case. In a positive way, I'm using Ne to imagine and create new uses to use or apply this thing (and then possibly putting this idea into action)!

Ne is finding anything in everything. I am able to find a joke in about 90% of all things. If i need to force a smile I just find some random funny thing and the smile looks natural as I internally laugh. It's more recent pursuit is Spot the Function. Finding the 3 functions working together to create a statement is always fun.
Ti is second guessing every single word... I wrote that sentence three times before saying fuck it and leaving it... Ti notices that I have so many strange behaviors that someone could easily figure out exactly what i am thinking by just watching my actions. It then proceeds to reason that no one besides me cares enough to actually do this.
Si + Ne is my completely messed up memory. I remember many very specific details of my life starting at age 5. There are actually no specifics. It's just a mass of thoughts and feelings with almost no factual information. Examples of such missing information include the color of my hair, the color of the shirt I am currently wearing, whether that person was 5 feet tall or 7 feet tall.
Si is perfect memory of my model representing my homework assignments that only works correctly in 4th dimensional space.
Once Ti builds it, Si never forgets.

Describe how you experience your type's functions

    My dom and aux functions:

Introverted Feeling: An internal sense of what is right and wrong and what makes sense, particularly from what I call a "human standpoint", dealing with emotions & morals and how they work and trying to harmonize the inconsistencies through evaluation. Things tend to resonate with me as truth immediately, and further reflection and analyzing sort of fits it into already existing beliefs, or susses out why it resonates as truth. Sometimes there is conflict with new info, and resolving it can distress me, as can resolving a strong emotionally-driven desire with my values. Most everything is personal in some sense....I have to relate it to myself to understand it on a level where I can decide if it is right or wrong. That relating and evaluating is not done in such a linear manner though. As mentioned, often I start with the feeling and work through the "why" afterwards.

There is also a welling up of feeling - not emotion, but just a feeling that says "this is me, or what I believe, or an idea I feel is worthwhile" and it can be felt in a mood, an image, a melody, a phrase, etc. And I will feel immediately "this is how it must be expressed" when I come across a way to reflect that feeling externally.

Extroverted Intuition: Seeing patterns between seemingly unrelated things, applying the pattern in what seems to be unusual ways, considering many future possibilities. It jumps from A to C and then back to B and then to X and has a lot of fun along the way, discovering new ideas & formulating theories. It's a lot of "what if" and Fi tends to weed out what doesn't resonate as good to me. I feel like Ne aids in creating the idealist aspect in myself. My feelings are made universal in the sense that the Fi ideas now go beyond me, a mere individual - it's looking at the Fi vision on a global scale and creating a metaphor for the feeling to have larger application, so it's no longer just about me. I feel like Ne is a door that swings both ways - things go out through it, and come in through it.
