I thought it would be interesting to look at data on how types occur within families and see if there are patterns. In this thread post your type, what you can best estimate the types are of your parents (or whoever raised you) and siblings, and the birth order and gender of your siblings.

Me (Female): INTP

Mother: ENFJ
Father: INTJ

(No siblings)

I had them all take an MBTI test online in my never-ending quest for knowledge :party2:

I can only say so far:

Father - IxTx
Step mother - ExFx

Real mother (don't know her that well) - xSFx

Siblings:

Sister 1- ESFP
Sister 2- ESFP
Me - INFP
Sister - can't type as she is disabled
Brother - ESFP
Brother - ENFP
Sister - ESFP

The ones with a complete type next to theirs are online tested.

Only wild guesses here:
Father: IxxJ (probably T, but I cannot know for sure)
Mother: ESxJ
both parents were extreme in the I/E axis
Siblings:
I guess my elder sister is an INFP
Me: (still guessing): maybe an INTP, could be S or J (but not SJ)
Brother 4th in order: INTx, maybe J
rest: impossible to even guess, but I think Es

IXTX
Father: EXTJ
Mother: ISTJ
Sister#1: ISTJ
Sister#2: IXTP (To no surprise, she always gets into trouble in our family; my parents do not tolerate her relaxed nature)
Me: IXTX (my S/N and J/P alternate so frequently, it's incredible)

INTJ
Father: ESTP (best guess)
Mother: ISFJ (guess, supported by at least one other person that has spoke with her)
Me: INTJ
Brother #1: ENTP (his wife is an ENFJ)
Brother #2: Not sure.
Sister: INXJ (could be either, but it's a hard call. I'd say F just because she's female, but she doesn't really act like an INFJ. If she's an INTJ, though, she has really weak Te. Regardless, she is quite introverted and has definite Ni.)

(dad and brother are guesses, but ones I've given much thought to and believe are correct)

Observations: families seem to be all or mostly either thinkers or feelers. When the parents were one feeler and one thinker, the kids seemed to take after the father (except in one case). I don't think there's enough data to generalize that, though.

I didn't see a convincing correlation between gender of child and simliarity to mother or father.

10 out of 13 first borns were introverts. 6 out of 12 second-borns were introverts. After that, the sample size becomes problematically small.

10 out of 12 mothers with a known judging function were feelers. 9 out of 12 fathers with a known judging function were thinkers, NOT feelers.

Those are the things that jumped out at me first. I'll look more at this later.

Yeah, small sample size and there are mostly introverts here to begin with so that may also skew numbers.

Poor mom, the only S!
Poor dad, the only E!
Poor brother, the only T!

I think it's hardest for me to understand P-thinking because it never was a part of our family. The first couple of times I came across it in significant measures, I thought the person had real problems.
