    Default Docking Dog Tails

    Historically, dog tails of specific species have been cut shortly after birth for a number of outdated reasons. Today, docking tails seems to be, in most cases, an attempt to keep a dog true to "form", sometimes for dog shows, and sometimes for purely superficial reasons.

    Cutting the tail off of a puppy runs the risk of causing hemorrhaging, and usually forces the dog to alter its gate to compensate for the lack of counterbalance a tail would provide. This may later contribute to more detrimental health problems.

    I personally advise against this practice and would urge breeders to reconsider.

    @momental's dog doesn't have a tail.

    He was born that way though.

    I like dogs with long, unruly tails.
    Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

    I don't know of anyone who would condone this. Is this an attempt to find a dog breeder on the forums?

    My dog also uses his tail as a rudder when he swims. So, you know, they need it for swimming.
