I never really make a list. These are things that come to mind though:
Some sort of fruit (mostly bananas or golden apples)
Some sort of vegetable (commonly some stuff to make salad or an avocado)
LOTS of TV Dinners and frozen goods
LOTS of Ramen
Various canned food (soup, chef boy RD ETC)
Lots of juice
Whatever condiments or necessities I'm out of (toothpaste or shampoo for necessities).
Maybe a treat if it's on sale.
I usually live off of 40-$60 a week. I think I do good.

This is from memory and so is more of a "what was bought" list than "what was on the list" list... most of it was for a couple recipes for this week... and I might be unintentionally combining two separate trips to the store.
1 red bell pepper
1 head of garlic
2 lg carrots
2 cans of corn
banana cream pie

I cracked up when I saw some random stranger's old "to do" list the other day. It reminded me of my own shortcomings.
Item #1 was something along the lines of "Finish so and so training". Item #2 was "Explain last night to S." Item #3 was "Return books to library" Item #4 was "Pack Smokes" and item #5 was "Straighten up apartment" Only item #4 was crossed out."The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them that they are being attacked and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

I don't make grocery lists, but a few things I should buy yesterday and I must certainly buy tomorrow:
-Some fruits (maybe apples or whatever seems fresh).
-Chocolate (I'm addicted).
-Coffee (kind of addicted, too).
-Rice (can't believe I run out yet again)
-Anti limescale tablets
