Cannibalism? It's not exactly like cutting off and eating a body part, it's something that would go in the trash leaving your body and baby's no worse for wear. Gross but not exactly oroboric.

Anyway, now I'm feeling the need to go out for protein smoothies.

I didn't do it, but a couple of my friends consumed their placentas after the births of their second and third children. One friend also had some interesting art made using her twin's placentas. All of them swear by it for preventing postnatal depression, which they all had after the birth of their first babies. There are people who can prepare tinctures and pills from the placenta for consumption to make it a bit more palatable.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing, that there are companies that make pills from placentas, and some women take them as a post-natal vitamin. I've heard about it, but I can't imagine doing it.

They were all very keen to avoid having postnatal depression again. I think they would have done almost anything. That said, none were particularly squeamish about it.

Hmm, yeah, I've heard stories about post-partum depression, and it sounds terrifying. I've heard that if you've experienced depression in the past, it makes you more likely to develop PPD?
