Diets, Self Help and Religion

How, if you are eating right? garbage processed food makes you fat.

If diets worked, there would be no need for thousands and thousands of diet books; there would be no need for magazines to constantly spruke diets.

It's the same with self help books. If they worked, there would be no need of a constant, no ending stream.

And it is exactly the same with religion. If religion worked, or if religion was true, there would be no need for thousands of religions.

So diets, self help books and religions don't work.

the answer is much more simple: humans don't work.

Your point is too arbitrary diets work I know this first hand because I was able to lose 50 pounds by dieting and exercising it has to do with proper eating habits and not minimizing your consumption. If you minimize your consumption you will just put your body into shock and your metabolism will slow down. If you are eating complex carbs, green vegies, protiens diet you will lose weight. The problem is most books suck when it comes to dieting there is a huge misconception that if you lower your food consumption you will lose weight. People have different strategies when it comes to dieting so there are different opinions on what works or not this is why there is alot of material on the subject.

Oh, we are fat and so we need to diet.

Our psyche is broken and needs to be healed.

And we have offended God and need salvation.

Religion is philosophical, our bodies are physiological, physiology is science and religion is not science. If you eat Mcdonalds hamburgers every day will get fat and die.

What? You don't believe in God, but you do believe in McDonalds?

Well, they tell me the golden arches are better known than the cross.

You can still believe in God and not believe you will burn in hell after you sin.

The Politically Correct God (PCG)

You can still believe in God and not believe you will burn in hell after you sin.

What kind of God is that? A God without hellfire and vengance? This is a politically correct God, the God of the bien pensants. A God that has been neutered. A safe God. The kind of God we have when we are not having a God.

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom - but this is a God without fear or wisdom. Tell me truly - is this a God you wish to worship?

It's true, dieting is related to fat gain in the long term, rather than fat loss.

I think our bodies know when calories have been restricted and compensate in the future for further calorie restriction.

It's an interesting conundrum.

Diets make us fat.

Correct. Everyone in this culture knows how to lose weight intellectually, they just don't want to follow through with the hard work and also are unable to change their closed mental circles on the situation. At the end of the day, your body needs certain calories and nutrients to function, and any attempt to jip yourself from that is not going to go over well.

True that.
Each thing you've mentioned requires a large degree of devotion- be it internal or external. Diets don't work as they are typically momentary- a quick fix- and not a lifestyle change. Diets vs long-term healthy eating are two entirely different creatures, and people are far less keen on the latter.

The problem with diets isn't the concepts.. it's the fact that they fail to be a lifestyle change in people's lives.
