Updates from earlier:

1) I think I found a lotion that works! Didn't end up trying CeraVe, but tried Eucerin and liked it a LOT more than Cetaphil. Fingers crossed that it continues to work this winter.

Eucerin is a great one, too! I always forget that brand makes stuff besides Aquaphor. One of my good friends w/rosacea loves their facial products.

2) I love that sugar/charcoal facial mask. Been using it once a week and my skin feels SO nice afterwards. <3 Thank you for the recommendation!

Awesome! Once to twice a week is really all you need.

Reposting this here because I figure this thread is visited more often.

Got a question about some stupid event I have to go to for a friend. Don't know if outfit meets criteria of "business-casual," as terms like that never apply to any part of my life.

Details below.
http://www.typologycentral.com/foru...-business-casual-post2565991.html#post2565991

thx for the input, forum.

I think that outfit works just fine for a company xmas thingie. Only question is, what shoes are you going to wear and will you be wearing stockings or bare legs?

Probably black stockings (legs get cold) & either these dark gray/black pumps below or similar solid black ones.
I don't really own much else in the way of dress shoes.

Ooooo no, those will go nicely, I'd go a fairly opaque black stocking and I think you're on to a winner!

Also, you could keep the makeup minimal if you wanted, with a fairly 'nude' eye and skin and do a bright pop on colour on the lips like a deep red or even a bright orange red. It's minimal effort and people always think you've put in waaaaay more effort than you really have.

Yeah, the opaquer the better.. the warmer it'll keep me, haha. Awesome. I wasn't sure if I was breaking some unspoken law about mixing tweeds or some such..stuff. ISFJ mom had a billion rules passed on through generations about "proper clothing/coordination" like it was an actual moral agenda. Needless to say, I tuned it out... I just always wear what feels okay for me, I dunno. These situations (parties/professional/even remotely formal events) always add this element of forced artificiality that I have a hard time getting around (I can fake the social crap, but the costumes, not so much). But I understand in professional settings, there are certain standards.. and I'm probably overthinking it and most everyone will be drunk eventually there anyhow, haha.

Anyway - Thanks for the input, Nij! I'll experiment with some of the makeup stuff tomorrow. I usually go for the reverse (bolder eye/nude lip), but the opposite might be a cool change.

Keep meaning to toss this here-

I'm pretty consistent w/my showering routines, but occasionally shit gets hectic & I'm too tired to bother. I could get away with not showering til the next evening on at a given time, if not for my hair. Even if I hadn't been sweaty/active, etc, my hair is on the oily side, so it's hard to skip washes without it being obvious. Can also lead to breakouts, for me.

I got this dry shampoo on a whim (most I've tried are just powdery, butane-smelly useless garbage), and it's been EXCELLENT for those points where I have early appts or whatever & could skate by til bedtime for my shower.

It worked so well that I wanted to just put it here as a general recommendation for anyone in search of a good/cheap dry shampoo. I keep forgetting to post it, but, I used it today, so, I guess that's a reminder.

I have a very regular shower routine but I love dry shampoo for a couple reasons. One is it's a unparalleled styling product for anyone with hair on the more fine/limp/flat side and two, you don't need a heat method to create the styles. I can dry shampoo either clean or day old hair, roll up a bun with a sock or bun form, go to bed and boom - lots of wave and body and not a lot of frizz like heat may cause. I like the Big Sexy Hair brand.

Eyelash curler is a brilliant device:yes:

I bought recently Maybelline, Fit Me Anti - Shine Free Foundation and it was a while since I was that contented with cosmetic. I rarely use foundation because I don't like to feel that I have something on my face. I don't feel this one , it covers well enough flaws and is in touch the same as skin.

I think it's light-medium coverage so maybe it can be disadvantage to some, but it serves me perfectly. And it's very handy, you can have it in handbag during having nasty cold or after sleepless night ;)

So I have been having a really hard time finding a natural mascara that works for me. I cracked and started using normal mascara again, until I find a natural alternative that is just as good.
When I cracked I decided to stick to cruelty free brands-- it's the least I can hold on to.

So that brings me to Essence.
I absolutely love (LOVE) their mascara.
I have tried these two and I have been extremely impressed by both of them. I mean, these are in the holy-grail category for me.
Let's not forget they're practically 3-4 dollars each.

FINALLY found a foundation that is not only the right shade (pale and pink undertone) but sheer to medium coverage. It's pricey, but soooo worth it.

Initial impression: The "all natural no make up" picture literally features a girl with a ton of photoshop and make up.

Half of them are stating they don't want a ton of make up or minimal make up while featuring girls plastered in it but they can't seem to tell they're caked in make up because it looks good and subtle? The other half are saying they want the crazy looks like smokey eyes, red lips, or bold colors. The make up looks good, and the girls look pretty, but minimal make up is more like what a girl proficient at make up does in 5 minutes when she's running late, or a girl that only does the eyes, or the lips... it has nothing to do with how much color or the style being used. There are 'natural looks' but those still require just as much make up and application as more obvious styles.. just different shades (matching the skin color and such, contouring to make the skin look smoother and not focus on color). Other than that, the ones stated are pretty classic staples, and a pretty wide approach.

Tldr: The article says, "Men like all different types of styles of make up that women wear."

Men all think they like natural no makeup/little makeup look...but what they actually don't know is that that look takes some work! ;)

I like the no-makeup look myself but I'm in a Morticia Addams phase so ya know, not exactly in it for the boys.

LOVE the Nasty Gal X MAC collection:

I have all of those! They're so well wearing!

Yes! :solidarity:

I've always found it easy to match my skin tone with Chantecaille. They do pale skin tones really well. I regularly use a powder by them in Shell. I tried using their tinted moisturiser for a while, but didn't like the coverage and soon switched back to the NARS one in Finland.

Also, I'm guessing you're buying from Mecca ('cause Straya). Have you tried their suncreen range? It's so hard to find a good suncreen for your face with high SPF that doesn't feel greasy. This one is perfect. Up there with Korean and Japanese products and worth even purchasing from overseas, imo.

On the topic of sun protection, I've been using the SunSmart app every day to check UV levels. I'm not letting myself get a nasty t-shirt sunburn like I did last summer. I had a close call last week. Not cute. :(

I like dark lips...within reason, the darker the better...and will be drawn to something bold around the eyes.

But I guess, like a lot of other men, I like the idea of a woman who feels comfortable enough in her own skin not to smother it with makeup. When you wake up at 5am with a leg over your balls the mascara will have worn off. But maybe I'm ignorant.
