In the past I've done martial arts, running and distance walking/hiking. I used to swim but dont like it much now, mainly as a result of poor body image. So suggestions?

Buy a bike. Ride it for 1/2 hour, turn around, go home. I lost 50 lbs with that simple method.

I gained 15 (since February) with this same method. It's a good thing.

Did you read the OP? 'Scrawny' is not the problem. You must have been very skinny and out of shape to gain muscle from biking.

So you're saying biking is not a good sort of exercise?

No. I think it's great. It's good that it helped you.

I have been using the bikes at the gym and despite coming close to 170 now, it seems to be the quickest most effective way to tone and shape. I am not getting skinnier, but the guy I was hanging out with last night did say I seemed to only be gaining in all the right places.

Seriously, of everything I have tried so far, bicycling is great.
