It's just another attack on our state of minds by the media. I'm not saying that the swine flu doesn't exist, but I mean, god damn, they're making this a bigger deal than the avian flu (which actually was a big deal comparatively.) All the media ever tries to do is scare the shit out of us nowadays. Killer bees! Avian flu! Swine flu!

    It's all getting really annoying.

People need to wash they hands after they be pissin'. Shit's annoying.

Fun fact: You spread less germs by kissing than you do shaking hands.

For the longest time, the only information I was getting on the swine flu was from other college students. They talked about it verrrry vaguely, so I thought it was a euphemism for an STD or something.

That's not how things work. The Flu is dangerous in populated areas because of transmission. Density is a problem, yes, but it's not related to anything 'supernatural' or intrinsic.

You might as well diagnose it as God's wrath for gays.

Young people are the ones at risk. This strain causes the immune system to over-react, affecting healthier (younger) adults. FWIW, this mirrors the death curve from 1918.

(Granted, very little data, as not many people have died yet.)

Heh, I was laughing that I was feeling all achey, until a couple of cases got diagnosed just down the street. Not that I'm worried - the timing is wrong. But yah.

It's not the amount, it's the type and how it gets passed. At least it's summer. Hope it dies here and now.

Haha, no. I just heard a bunch of my friends and acquaintances saying things like, "I heard so-and-so has the swine flu, heh heh heh." That immature laughter, coupled with the silly name made me think it was a new slang thingy I hadn't picked up on. Yeah, my imagination runs away with me.

In my last post I said "information", but that definitely wasn't the right word to use.

They've given NO hard data on the deaths. For all we know they are basing their comments on a few young people who had compromised immune systems. What are the ages and demographics of the people who died? They aren't saying, so what they say means little.

The people who have contracted it and brought it home to the US are recovering quickly.

They also keep calling it "Swine Flu" but then they say this flu in Mexico is a mix of bird, swine and human strains, well that isn't just Swine Flu, then they say that they've diagnosed people in the US with "A Swine Flu, type A influenza" ---they use the two terms interchangably in the news and that's very misleading. There's always going to be some kind of type A influenza going around this time of year.

They need to be more precise. Call the new flu in Mexico something precise and then differentiate it from other cases of Influenza.

Another thing that's irritating, don't those masks need to be sealed around the edges to do any good? It seems as about as good as sniffing a clove studded orange in the black death or gargling with vinegar during a yellow fever outbreak.
