Memory manipulation

-technology that's now obsolete
Laundry chutes and dumb waiters.

-human invention
Birth control

-place to be kissed
Neck/head

-pizza toppings
Just me eating? A nice combo of meat and veg. with anchovies baked on it. Not on the side. So tired of anchovies on the side.

-person who makes you laugh
People in general although it's often laughing on the inside. My kids, my ENFJ, whoever is around me.

-time of the day to wake up
About 9am

-snack
PB on wheat toast, popcorn, HB egg on Wasa, yogurt, pistachios

-spot to think alone
Driving. Walking on the beach. Bathroom.

-person or place you'd visit if given time off & a free trip
Everywhere.

-book
I'm reading all the Paul Theroux travel books. Current - Kingdom by the Sea. On deck - Deep South

-time playing, as a child
We couldn't really go out much as small kids - bad neighborhood. After we moved, I went all over. I liked to find quiet places to read too. Trees were nice.

-body part
I like eyes but I'm always looking at the symmetry.

-question/observation about yourself - from someone else
Wow. You don't fuck around when you say you'll do something, do you?

-weather
65 in the day, 40's to 50 at night and breezy to windy. Low humidity. I want to hear the waves on Lake Michigan.

-memory with a family member
I don't know, I would have to give it some thought to choose *a* memory.

-thing you learned in school that you actually use in 'real life'
Little to nothing.

-question you still seek an answer to
Why the Chicago Cubs haven't won a WS in 100+ years. I think it's because of Wrigley Field and if they demolished it, they'd have a dynasty on the north side. I often get overly emotional responses to this proposal - hence no answer to the question.

-quality you take some pride in
If I say I'm going to do it, I do it and I do it right.

-way to blow off steam
Kneading bread. In the end, you've blown off steam and have something to eat.

Some long thread of profanity.

-lie you tell yourself or others
I don't like to do this but I will if the situation really requires it. I don't lie to myself.

-wonder found in nature
I think mostly that we are so defenseless against nature, you have to respect everything it's got. Weather, animals, insects, the natural balance of things.

-tradition you have
We like to celebrate St. Nicholas Day (Dec. 6). It's like a Christmas pre-game but it's something we've always done.

-article of clothing or possession
My husband built me a kitchen table after looking for one to buy forever. He gave it to me as a Christmas gift. Since then he's built many things for our house but this will always be my favorite.

Friend (Thinker) asked if I could make a list of questions for our group while travelling. The 'wish list' was: 1. fun to talk about 2. help us get to know each other more deeply and 3. coax out more 'emotion' or personal details.

We've had great conversations now & it's made me want to hear what you all would say too. Do 'em all or just pick one that appeals. Look forward to reading your replies on the road! >^.,.^<

Will answer myself when have more consistent net access.

meowington What is teletext?

Teletext - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a crude form of a internet via analog cable. It was like a website on TV that you could access and view stuff like tv guide, news, weather, sometimes it would allow the load of subtitles for some channels and even play some basic games. But it was channel specific and the information was created by the channel owners. Consider it like a homepage for each channel. Not all channels had this.

The addressing was done via page numbers from 000 to 999. You couldn't search for something by typing what you were looking for. Instead, you had an index page and you needed to type in the page number that was allocated to the respective item, and the index page was usually 101 while the homepage was 100 (loaded at startup). The search was slow. It would start searching at 100 and go to the page one by one. So let's say that you searched page 600. It would go to 600 by starting from 100 and showing at the top that it is searching. It usually took about 10-50 pages per second. Some channels had fast search, other were really slow. The colors are 8 bit? Could be wrong, but no way could it display more than 256 colors, and the resolution was shit.

I guess it's more of an European thing. It didn't catch on in America. This is why you may have not heard of it. Oddly enough, it still exists today. I have accidentally hit the teletext button recently and saw it's still active. This despite having digital tv with a proper program guide.

Really? (on the Wasa). I love them and they keep making more good things like flatbreads and they always have new ideas for toppings. I'm not Scandinavian at all but I get accused of being one because I eat rather gross things with them. Like sardines and whitefish salad spread. On the pizza front - that is my cross to bear. I love anchovies. It's the most maligned food in the world. After haggis.

Article of clothing or possession: my antique vanity mirror, sea green wooden frame and a touch of smoke damage on the glass. They say a mirror is harder to hold, you know.

-memory with a family member
Arguing with my grandfather about that I’m not going to go asleep when I was about 2-3. I was something as “Kas sleeps”, “Kas doesn’t sleep” repeated many times. Rest of family seemed bored, the grandfather was amused.

I like kimchi. Vinegary tastes - oh yes. I can pickles, giardiniera, pickled spiced peaches, even relish. For the last few years, we've been making something called a dill crock.

What in the World is a Dill Crock and why would I want one? | melindamcguirewrites

Here's the original recipe from the Stocking Up book

Euell Gibbon's Dill Crock | Kitchen Gardeners International

We started it when we had a bumper crop of green beans and Thai peppers. Since we all loved pickled and fermented things, this was ideal. Now we add any firm, crisp veggie to the crock, just making sure it's submerged. It's so delicious and keeps 2-3 months in the fridge. But it's never lasted that long here.

My iPad Mini because I use it as a journal, bookstore/bookshelf (Kindle), camera, music player, and laptop substitute.

-superhero power

I've always liked Beast Boy's power allowing him to transform into any animal which basically gives him the ability to traverse across any type of terrain on earth. If not that, probably some combination of healing light, invisibility, and force fields. I guess since it's not what I'd personally choose and rather my favorite I'd have to go with Starfire's flight (controlled via emotional state) and starbolts.

-time playing, as a child

i loved role playing, whether it be pretending to be pokemon trainers with my pokemon figures or pretend fighting with powers we made up ourselves

-body part

for me it'd have to be my legs which are very muscular without much effort on my part, but in general i'd say i don't have one because it depends on the person.

-question/observation about yourself - from someone else

my favorite observation people have made about me is the expansiveness and diversity of my interests - whether it be contemporary R&B or astrological birth charts people always seem to appreciate how i'm interested in a wide variety of things which enriches my conversations. i'm guessing it's because my mercury is in gemini :tongue10:

intense summer heat - i love the feeling of the sunshine on my skin cus it feels like a euphoric hug from nature.

-memory with a family member

probably all the road trips i've taken with my mom, or all the times my grandma would drive me to mcdonalds and burger king just to ask for the toys i wanted.

-thing you learned in school that you actually use in 'real life'

always washing my hands with soap (when before i would sometimes only use hot water if i was feeling lazy) as i learned that regardless of whether its antibacterial or not washing with soap significantly decreases bacteria more than washing without it

that, or one time back in elementary school my teacher called my writing crappy and ever since then i internalized it and am super conscious of my penmanship

-question you still seek an answer to

when will i be truly happy

-quality you take some pride in

-weather

-memory with a family member

the time the alternator went out on our car on a family vacation in the Appalachians... and we were on top of a mountain. my dad decided to coast down the mountain while my mom held onto the door with a death grip and kept hissing at my sister and I while we were giggling in the back seat and pretending to be on a roller coaster. a nice garage at the bottom of the mountain let my dad do his own work there while my mom, sister and I explored the town... weird memory, but it always sticks with me

-lie you tell yourself or others

it's no big deal

-wonder found in nature

oooh... so many of them! my parents own a nature preserve where I grew up and liked to vacation at national parks, so I grew up surrounded by nature! one thing that's always struck me as starkly beautiful though is sycamore trees against the blue winter sky in the snow though... brilliantly white skeletal branches against the blue sky... something so pretty and oddly disturbing about it at the same time

-tradition you have

christmas eve at my parents' house is an important one... and the man and I have clean sheet and clean dog Tuesday which are important household traditions we've had for years

-article of clothing or possession

I've had the same clear blue glass tea mug for around 25 years now... it goes where I go and nobody else may drink from it
