Do I seem like a perfectionist to anyone here?

I think I am. Specifically, I'd mark myself as a semantic perfectionist.

Critical thinking is more than just a hobby for me.

I'm perfectionist in that the truth of some issue is handled exactly as it is, and not muddled with generalizations or anything like that. I also like my language precise. I don't usually do any action- or goal-orientated tasks with perfectionism, instead I look for productivity and efficiency.

Even though I'm not a P, they always find a way to my heart.

As I get to know them and their habits, I find it that they are perfectionist.

Whether it's an ENTP, INFP, INTP, ISFP, (dunno about ENFPs), etc...
The way they spread on cream cheese on begals.
Their artwork or projects.
Or correcting me on a simple grammar mistake.
Everything has to be perfect.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hehe, and they're picky, but who isn't.:D
I used to be a hard-core perfectionist,
but I have learned to relax a little.
But if that saying is worth anything, that "it takes one to know one",
I flatter myself that I should be able to spot a perfectionist when I see one.

I have 2 ISTP men in my family. They are not perfectionists.
I have an ISTJ daughter and mother. They are not perfectionists.
I have a son who is either an ENFJ or INFJ. He IS a perfectionist.
I have an INFP sister who SAYS she's a perfectionist,
but she is confusing perfectionism with idealism, which is not the same thing.
She is NOT a perfectionist.
I have an ESTP father who is not a perfectionist.

If I have to show a group of people something I'm a perfectionist. Though most of the time I get frustrated because it ends up looking nothing like in my head that I give up and just throw something together. Of course I end up beating myself up over it for days. So I probably am I perfectionist because for me it's either all or nothing. though I tell and act like I don't care so no one knows how frustrated/disappointed i am with what i do most of the time.

When I'm told to grab the vacuum cleaner and remove all the tiny particles from our floors, I am definitely not a perfectionist.

When I'm expressing myself artistically or practising equestrianism, I am very much a perfectionist.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I see in Ps.
I hate to throw cold water on the party,
but I would like to submit that this description does not really describe true, life-altering, Perfectionism.
If one can pick and choose what one is "fussy" about, that is not Perfectionism.
Perfectionism is a handicap that mars a person's existence with unrealistic standards that no human being can possibly meet.
If one is not driven to get all the specks off the floor,
or at least driven crazy by the presence of specks on the floor,
one is not a Perfectionist.

When a person is creating art, one would expect them to fuss and tweak until it is the exact expression of their soul.
That is art.

I agree. To be a perfectionist is to have a propensity for being displeased when something doesn't meet very high standards or expectations. You cannot have a propensity for something if you do it selectively or in very few situations.

Yes, I am perfectionist... but also easily frustrated. So when perfection doesn't come quickly, I just let it go. I don't do a lot of things I'd like to just because I think I wouldn't do it right.

I am that way too.
I won't do something if I think I won't do it perfectly.

RIGHT...me too. But I have learned that this perspective does not help you.

Exactly.
And that's why I am thankful that I'm not as bad as I used to be.
I have learned that there is such a thing as "good enough".
I'm still working on it, but I've made a lot of progress.
For instance, when vacuuming, sometimes I will move all the furniture
and vacuum every nook and cranny,
but other times I allow myself to say, THIS time, I'll just do a general cleaning
in the middle of the floor, because it really needs it.
Even though I don't have time to do it perfectly,
it's still worth doing.

Perfectionism, for me, has permeated every aspect of my thinking,
and it has taken me years to accept "less" of myself.

Because, you're right, perfectionism IS counter-productive.

I have been jealous of people who have no thought or care about perfection.
They just do things, and don't care if it's crooked, or imperfect,
or if they mess up and make mistakes.

But hey! At least they're doing things!
There's got to be a happy medium.
That's what I'm aiming for.

I would be anal about everything if I hadn't managed to overcome my OCD. My OCD is mostly manageable because I have mild ADHD as well. My mind is busy enough most of the time (I've been known to literally focus on two thoughts at once, only realizing I had done so moments later- usually I just have five low-priority thought-processes running in the background) for me to brush aside the drive of OCD. But goddammit if anyone moves my soap one more time I'm going to go insane!

Self-directed pickiness with a valid purpose.

I'm exercise selective perfectionism. I won't show anyone my art, music, or writing until it is just how I want it, and even then I am insecure. Part of this comes from the desire to avoid criticism, since I am hypersensitive to it, and part of it comes from the desire to achieve the ideal of absolute connection through creative expression.

True, it won't help at all. I'd like to overcome that, but... it's just so hard.

Which reminds me that I never put in order my room just because I'll never make it look 'perfect'.

I feel that too. I hate when my classmates present their homework messily. A lot of times I didn't present my homework just because it looked... ugly? to me.

Uh, I like to draw but... when it comes to showing people what I do, it's hard. I don't know how can I even have an DeviantArt account.

(Gee, even now I'm previewing this just for making sure it looks 'good')

perhaps it has something to do with the introverted judging functions, being so self critical and all..?
