That answer is too generic. It treats everybody as equivalent.

If a male asks you about your family (and I know of one who prefers to talk about family), then that points you in the direction of conversation for that individual.

This has more to do with his being a Feeler than being a male.

But that is the point: everyone IS equivalent. Does this feeler man ask other men about their families, or only women? That is the true test of whether his question is gender-based, or based instead on his interests as an individual.

We cannot know an individual's interests and preferences until we spend some time getting to know them. The problem with assumptions is that they cause us to draw conclusions about people before we have done that, using superficial but obvious "cues" like race or gender, which may say very little about what someone is really like.
