Back to Marx.
Communism failed miserably.

He wrote to his daughter: I am not a Marxist.
Back home, when he was a child, he had watched a commune of bees.
If bees can create a perfect rational society, why should not we do it?

Marx is a schoolboy. A teacher asks a question. Marx lifts his hand.
Who gave the order to lift his hand? Marx did not.
He followed the order.

So whose order was it?
It was the order of the commune.
Watch the bees.

A mind is a commune. A swarm of bees does not create the I?
I think I think, therefore I am.
I is a collective decision. No more.

collective intelligence?

to know involves the knowledge of others over time, from oral history to written history, urban legends to fairy tales... our knowledge of all that we haven't seen or heard is based on collective humanity?

Knowledgewise, yes. No objection. :)

Intelligence is based on information. Yes.

On the other hand. Mind as such is a collective.
That is a breakthrough in our thinking.

What does it mean? What does it explain?
Everything.

Predetermination, for example.
Does "I" weigh pros and cons? Or are the pros and cons already weighed?
I acts as a final judge. It is the jury who reached the verdict.
How many jury members brain has? As many as it has synapses.

The mind is a collective. Does the mind vote?
No. The mind is unanimous.
No hierarchy. No opposition. No parties, factions, quarrels.
Look at a swarm of bees. They never fight.

You sit in a classroom. Damn. You have nothing to say before the mind has reached the verdict.
The verdict says: Raise your hand.
You raise your hand. Yes, you may object. You may stall. You may even grumble.
In a fraction of a second, you obey.
You raise your hand as ordered.

I thought I was smart. Am I smart? No.
An individual is never smart.
Individual is a dummy and it obeys the collective. The collective is smart.

Yes. I forgot. :wubbie:
That is because I cannot listen to the lyrics, while I listen to the music.
It is one or the other.
The subject of our discussion.

It is like this:
I lace my shoes. Or rather, I try to.
A neighbour talks to me about the development of the embryos, or about the oncoming snow storm.
I desperately try to lace my shoes.
I cannot.
I have to listen to a lecture about the embryos or about the oncoming snow storm.
The neighbour says: Why do you not lace your shoes?

My grandmother taught me to lace my shoes when I was seven.
She was patient.
While I laced my shoes, she did not say a word. A wise woman.

Back home, I laced my shoes.
Mother came into the room and began to lecture about the 11th Century aristocrats of Iberia.
Unperturbed, I laced my shoes.
- Did you hear a word I said?

like listening and counting...

god help anyone who expects for me to hear them if I'm counting

... or for whatever's being counted to be accurate

I'm half convinced that certain activities or processes take up the exact same pathways in the brain so that if you do one you cannot simultaneously do the other :ninja:

You should wear a big placard plastered on your chest that reads: Do not talk to me when I am counting!

Yes, that is part it. The brain is occupied ..
All my childhood my mother talked .. I never knew what she said! I smiled, looked at her in the eye as if I had been listening. One time I overheard, though. She said: Your head is like oatmeal .. everything is mixed up there! :)

I usually give an expression that pretty much makes that point

sometimes the path that the brain is on is pretty narrow... there's only room for one thing at a time... if everyone would realize this the world would be a much more peaceful place!

Your expression says: Do not talk to me I am counting!

It is like autostrada. You cannot afford to drive out of the road!

We autists do not have expression to protect us.
I should have taken up poker! Like Auntie Jenny.. I should be a millionaire by now. :)

too many expressions equally hinder the ability to play poker... that and I'm not good at playing games... I argue too much :ninja:

and I've never been able to remember what constitutes a hand either

sometimes a lack of expression is a benefit... :newwink:

This really smart girl once said to me
"A good memory is a sign of intelligence."
You know she was right, and hot too (rather attractive, physically).

memory, unfortunately, does not extend to poker... though I can usually tell you everything that I've seen over the course of any day of the last year... and almost anyone I've talked to... memory is a funny thing like that :newwink:

You have all my sympathy.
My grandma was a card player. She barred me.
I was rudely excluded of the game.

Nixon made a fortune.
It is very simple.
Two basic rules.
Count negatively.
End the game when you are losing.

Additional rule:
Argue when you are not supposed to argue. :)
