Default Men and their Soap Opera Viewing Habits

    This is pretty fucking funny:
    http://www.aber.ac.uk/media/Students/acp9601.html

"There have been many theories put forward as to why men don't like soap operas. Abercrombie (1996:51) argues that the soap world is a woman's world; dominated by the domestic scene, the emotions and feelings of strong female characters with a strong sympathy for these feelings and problems. Men, it seems , are excluded from watching these programmes by their very nature. Livingstone noted that the history of soaps has meant that it is traditionally a woman's genre. The format of the genre is that of a serial; an ongoing plot with no forseeable conclusion. This, she states is not appealing to men who prefer the dramatic tension and conclusion of action dramas. We shall see if this is proven in the data which we obtained..."

For a brief time I watched the now cancelled Guiding Light. Alan Spaulding, a millionaire or billionaire with his own personal corporate jet, with rugged masculine features and expressing mostly eType 8 traits, had just been released from federal prison and was now faced with the task of acquiring the signatures of three trustees who held his fortune at bay. I liked the character and wanted to see how he got it all back.

Putting up with several other vaguely interesting story-lines was the worst part of my one and only attempt at soap-opera viewing.

Well, I don't watch soap operas. I probably don't like the fact that there is never a resolution, but also they tend to be very cheesy and unrealistic and boring (to me) in a way that I assume to is meant to appeal to the same audience who reads romance novels. I also have little interest in watching Twilight, it's just not meant for a general audience. I also am not a huge fan of typical action dramas, so I'm not sure where this plays in. But, I do like an occaisional period romance.

I'd say I don't watch soaps because why watch porn quality writing/dialogue/acting if nobody gets tied up and bukkaked.

My ENTJ grandfather watches soaps, and that isn't even the weirdest thing about him.
