I think what people commonly describe as cynicism could be survivor traits or trauma legacies. Even in the understanding of it as caused rather than innate or in born says something.

Around the age of 18 when I was diagnosed with a chronic illness I became quite cynical. I think I grew out of it with time, but not completely. My go to mode when I get hurt is cynicism again.
