Creativity is making something new. So no matter how many mistakes we have made, no matter how many time we have failed, we can always create something new.

And creativity contains its own anaesthetic, its own intoxicant, its own ecstasy - in flow.

Creativity forgives the past in a burst of ecstasy and creates a new world.

Creativity frees us from abuse. And creativity frees us from rigidity.

Creativity enables us to breathe freely.

Of course the abusive and the rigid try to nobble the creative flow. They try to strangle us.

And sometimes they succeed. And as we lose our breath, we start to see world through their eyes and all of a sudden the world turns grey.

But at the bottom of it all is the deep down freshness of things. A bubbling spring - and all we have to do is drink to be refreshed.

All the Pride of Obedient Children

What is most interesting is the activities we see around us. They consist of categorising and applying logic to the categories.

What we don't see is creativity and flow.

And we take pride in our ability to categorise, such as the way we categorise personality here.

And then we apply iterating logic to the categories we have created.

And the joker in our pack is that categories we so laboriously apply logic to are completely bogus. And as we all know - rubbish in, rubbish out.

Of course we are taught in school to categorise - and we categorise and categorise with all the pride of obedient children.

From Categorising Beasts to Angels of Metaphor

Oh I guess you answered the question I was going to ask.

I suppose what surprised me is how prevalent and normal categorising is. For instance, the music industry is categorised, pornography is categorised, in fact it is hard to find any area that is not categorised.

And we have chapels, churches and basilicas of categorisation and we call them libraries.

But we are in the bizarre situation where categorisation is over and has been replaced by random access memory.

Every time we google, we have abandoned the hierarchies of categorisation and are using random access memory.

And as we use random access memory, random access memory uses us and changes us from logical, categorising beasts to angels of metaphor.

Which is what artists have been doing for centuries :)

Ask us a simple question, and you can never be sure what the answer will be. For us, coupled with creativity, the sky is no limit to what we can do. We don't really like categories, so most of us don't fit into a set sterotype either ;P

Moralism and Ecstasy

No artist has had access to random access memory before 1936.

Before 1936 categorisation ruled, from the Roman Legions to the Library of Alexandria, from universal literacy to the railroads.

Categorisation creates habits of thought, ways of thinking, which we take for granted.

But ecstasy is stepping outside the taken for granted.

And moralism is no substitute for ecstasy.

I believe we are a creative / spiritual species. What is within must come out, in some form for optimal (mental) health. Without showcasing our inner gift, it is as if we wither and die as, not zombie, but somewhere between that and living life. A life with joy. With optimal fullfillment, i call finding one's special and unique gift and sharing it with mankind.
