The problem with this poll is that it's relative to the mood of the person. Oh, and the "SP" and the "SJ" as said by person down.
A search for truth is a search for a greedy perspective.

Nah, that's not truth. That's just your bullshit ideas of truth. Truth is always inclusive. If it's not inclusive, then toughen it up and try harder.

Is it because this forum has so few active S's?

The poll options are limited to 20. Just saying.

Within certain parameters, happiness is a choice and a habit. When your life is concretely sucky of course it's going to effect how you feel, but having as good an attitude as possible and looking for positive, practical solutions can reduce feelings of helplessness and despair. And like Victor said, trying to help others -- it can get your mind off yourself and that is often a good thing.

I'm somewhat pessimistic and cynical, and yet feel pretty satisfied with my life right now. We are more financially stable and comfortable than we have ever been. My husband and I are getting along well, the kids are fairly well-behaved, doing well in school and becoming more and more self-sufficient. My relationship with both of my parents and my siblings is fairly positive. I've got entertaining stuff to do and a reasonable amount of time alone in which to recharge. Frankly, if I was unhappy, it'd be my own damn fault.

Now I can always find something to moan and rant about, but that's one of the ways I entertain myself.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

Yeap the maximum number of options is 20. However since we have so little S people here I have decided that this is probably the best way to arrange the poll with 20 options.

The Constitution and the Pursuit of Happiness

Just as school is compulsory, so the pursuit of happiness is compulsory.

And whole industries have sprung up to service the pursuit of happiness.

There is the self help industry, there is the pharmaceutical industry, and of course the illegal pharmaceutical industry, and the therapy industry.

And the whole point of these industries is to keep us industrious, for the devil makes work for idle hands.

So the pursuit of happiness is at heart a religious pursuit for heaven on earth.

And of course it is doomed to failure, thank heavens, for the largest presenting symptom at doctors' surgeries is depression.

And in fact all feelings, even happiness, are mixed feelings.

And the unalloyed pursuit of happiness is totalitarian when we are lying in the gutter looking at the stars.

So we are condemned to dance between happiness and myriad unhappinesses.

For as Tolstoy taught us, "Happy families are all alike; and every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way".

And as we perceive by making distinctions, the distinction between happiness and unhappiness enables us to see ourselves and others.

While the blind pursuit of happiness, makes us blind.

So the blind pursuit of happiness is a variant of blind faith.

So thank heavens blind faith has been replaced by the Enlightenment.

The key to happiness, is not to pursue it. Just be it.
