Patriotism in the U.S. is code for ignorant conservative hicks, usually residing in the South and Midwest.

If you are going back to school, I doubt you'll see much "patriotism". I don't think we've had any united feelings like that since 9/11; lasted a couple months.

    Good God, no.

    Ideology is -

    1. predigested thought

    2. it serves interests

    3. it has a demonology.

And the outreach of ideology is propaganda -

And the first mistake apprentice propagandists make is to believe their own propaganda.

And the second mistake the apprentice makes is to accuse their opponent of hypocrisy for not believing their own propaganda.

And the final mistake is to believe that propaganda is true or false, when propaganda is neither true nor false but simply plausible or implausible.

Guess I'm an anomaly then. I'm an educated, east coast liberal, and I'm about as patriotic as it gets.

Fervent anti-patriots are just as retarded as blind jingoists.
Listen to me, baby, you got to understand, you're old enough to learn the makings of a man.

The, "Economist", published a survey the other day of peoples who support their country.

Australia was top of the list followed by Canada and your neighbour Finland. The USA was quite a way down the list.

I have always thought American patriotism protests too much.

I'm sure that if they took that poll 50 years back America would be near the top, but you know. We've become conflicted. We've got too many things going on and the government is running amok.

Our people are more concerned in their individuality more than their nationalistic views. Which is how I view it should be, as nationalism breeds prejudice.

Sure, nationalism breed prejudice but patriotism is love of country.

Nationalism says my country is better than yours while patriotism says you can love your country just as much as I love mine.

But I confess that as much as I love my country, my country loves me even more.

I'm not sure that Americans can be so sure about our own situation. The government may as well hate most of us. Who knows.

You do realise don't you that most of us think Americans have a paranoid view of the very government they elect themselves.
