High culture sets us free while low culture diminishes us.

Low culture is extremely profitable. So it is no surprise it is extremely popular.

And if you want to be popular, if you want to belong, you adopt the manners and mores of low culture.

So low culture is piped at us from every direction - from television, from the pop music industry, from the pornography industry, from the drug industry and from youth culture.

    Low culture is big business.

But at its heart is a hatred of high culture.

At its heart low culture harbours a deep ressentiment towards high culture, and so takes every opportunity to birsmirch it.

The constant and never ending reference to, "Ass", here, and now a whole thread devoted to, "Ass", demonstrate the passion to dirty high culture.

Low culture knows it is dirty, it even thinks sexuality is dirty, so it is on a compulsive and never ending quest to make high culture as dirty as itself.

And how successful it has been.
Did you read the thread at all or did you want to tell everyone how the entire breadth of human culture throughout history can be simplified to "low" and "high" culture and works like a bad Palahniuk interpretation?

If it is true we perceive by making distinctions and all distinctions are arbitrary, then you can have no complaint about my distinction between low and high culture.

On the other hand you may simply be a victim of low culture and so have become infected with ressentiment.

This is a painful condition and leads to attacking others like a mad dog.

Yes, ressentiment is like rabies - it's infectious - and like swine fever it can be spread by contact.

The only cure is a three months course of high culture - but do take pains to complete the whole course for the whole three months, otherwise pockets of low culture may survive and proliferate.

This logic instantly validates either me criticizing your disdain for following thread courtesy or the elimination of all criticism. I can't have a complaint about your complaining about something totally off topic?

There are a few things this has taught me:
    1) You are in love with your own voice.
    2) You are an idiot.

Accusing me of being off topic is usually the fall back position of my critics.

And it's true - I am in love with my own voice - and you can hear my voice, and I can hear yours, by typing, "shortus", into Skype.

And it's true - I have been called an idiot before - so it must be true.

Yet no one has called me an idiot savant - so the jury is still out on that one.

I'm curious... what is high culture? Where can it be found? Is it known by any other names?

It can be found, mate, in the Canon and in the hearts of all those who love truth and beauty.

I don't know what a Canon is besides a brand of printer, but I'll try looking in the hearts of those who love truth and beauty. Thanks.

The Canon is simply those things that have been found to be true and beautiful.

And yes, these are the hearts to look into.

    Incorrect...

    IJ TRANSGENDER - Introduction

Homosexual behaviour can be a choice, but homosexuality - being predominantly homosexual, isn't. In the vast majority of cases it's present from very young ages, when, if a conscious choice were being made, it would surely be the one that doesn't get them bullied and ostracized.

Victor - high culture can include humour and sexuality... the three are not mutually exclusive...

    What!

High culture can include humour and sexuality - no one ever told me that!

Do you mean to tell me that high culture can be funny and sexy?

It seems high culture is overflowing with all the goodies - and it's good for you as well.

I have been told high culture nourishes the soul - but who would have guessed it tickles the funny bone as well - and who would have guessed that high culture is not only funny but is so hot, hot, hot - it sizzles?

High culture has been hiding its light under a bushel and indeed it seems it has a bushel of light to hide.

It's true, my date last night giggled and sizzled, and oddly enough, loves high culture.

If only I had discovered this earlier - it's been a secret well kept.

But the cat is out of the bag now - and it is the cat of high culture - sizzling with good humour.
